2792307 No.2792307 [Reply] [Original]

Degreelet here and no I am not going to post in the SQTDLGBTQ because fuck jannies and I'm not gay.
I want to chop this tree down. My plan is to rent a chainsaw and start with cutting the limbs down away from the house at the top and work my way down.
Is this an actual a good approach? It's not particularly high but at it's highest it's definitely a long 25ft thin branch that exceeds my roof line.

No, you'll probably kill or maim yourself, chainsaws can be pretty dangerous beasts and trees are trickier than you think.
Get a silkie saw instead. much harder to kill yourself with.

that's a pain in the ass right there, if you don't do a lot of sawing I'd split it up so you don't get tired and hurt yourself with the saw. Get a small saw, like a 16", because you're going to be holding it up and maneuvering it around and your arms will get tired and that's when you hurt yourself with a saw. Start at the upper red line here, furthest from the house and drag off the branches as you cut them so they don't get in your way and make you hurt yourself with the saw. When you get to the bottom, use a small shovel and trowel and dig away the dirt from around the trunk near where you'll be cutting. Dirt hurts the saw, it wears the bar and the chain, which is why your chainsaw is one of the three things you never let another man borrow, the other two being your guns and your wife.

what the fuck, dude you claim to have a degree but it's more of a hindrance than a benefit because you have no common sense
that's not even a tree, it's a shrub that was planted and left to go wild
get some loppers and take off all the limbs, then hack up the stump into mulch with an axe
if you rent a chainsaw and you try to stump grind with it they'll charge you for the whole chainsaw because you'll have ruined it.
never ever let a chainsaw blade touch dirt, you will dull the blade in a second
and you obviously don't know how to operate a chainsaw or stump grinder so just get an axe and be careful using it because we all know you're a soiboi

I just tie that shit off with a rope or some winch cable (no need for my winch for most work, I keep about 70 feet with looped ends for shit like that), pull away from house to preload then cut at chest height (bad back) then do the base afterwards.

I did several much larger trees after a shoulder replacement so I bought a couple of cordless chain saws and ran the shortest bars that would work for best performance. My gasser saws have sat for years and my shoulder is fine because no pulling. I minimize axe use because shoulder is valuable. I cut stumps level or slightly below grade and let them rot a few years before before cutting up the rest as they do no harm.

Chains are too cheap online to care about sharpening though I do save dull ones in a bucket in case of severe boredom then I'll sharpen the lot.

Tree too close to house. That never ends well either by roots fucking the foundation or branches fucking the roof.

This is hard for women of all genders to understand until there is no choice and a large arborist bill easily avoided by not being childish about tree. OP can plant another further out.

No reason to make it worse. Trees are bad. Kill them. Problem solved. A home need only last long enough for the current owner which that will with modest care (and less tree).

Boomers hate trees. Suburbanites hate trees. I see it in my neighborhood all the time, people removing perfectly good trees and replacing them with nothing at all. It looks like OP has a huge and empty yard. Removing the tree will make it feel even more empty and exposed. But then again he probably doesn't use his yard for much anyways. Honestly don't understand why people like this don't just live in apartments. Like if you hate the maintenance so much that you want literally nothing in your yard then why bother?

Just leave the tree. It's adding way more value than your tiny boomer brain can comprehend.

OP can replace it with something further out. Roofs are expensive, foundations are expensive, you're just being contrarian because you don't care what happens to other peoples property.

How much cash value does that little thing add to the home sale?

Not only do you not own a chainsaw, but you do not even have anyone in your social cricles who does.
Please reconsider your life choices anon, this is embarrassing.
Can you even rent one for less than $200? Because that's what the suburbia tier stihl goes for.

>> No.2795555

Rental plus attendant travel etc can be about a hundred bucks. Small corded pole saws and chain saws are in that region new like the ten inch pole saw I bought to extend using PVC pipe, strapping tape, an extension cord and a power strip.

Oregon CS 1500 corded saws are on Amazon for ~$104 and would be ample for OPs tree.

>> No.2796515

Buy a decent quality saw, under powered and unexpected behaviour will increase the chance of injury.

Watch as many vids that pretain to your local chainsaw cert. Drop the money on PPE, watch accident videos, and work out how it could of been prevented.

Do all that before even firing it the first time. Apply what you've learnt in theory, get comfortable starting and warming the engine. Watch as much as you can of experienced people carrying out a similar job, don't go watching climbing or forestry stuff.

To be honest, buy a pole pruner with a 2 stroke powering it, little 11' will do exactly what you want. That way you're 2 meters away from the business end and will have a much better view of your surroundings. That'd be the safest and most effective approach.

Jesus Christ Just buy a cheap saw and cut that thing down, how complicated can it be?
a tree that size is only dangerous if you are an absolute moron.
