Glad someone finally is asking for summer wear instead of winter wear.
You're in Australia, right?
I've lived in the tropics for over 4 years now and I'm pretty used to dressing in exclusively warm weather, so I can wear some hotter stuff (like lighter outerwear).
Either way, I still do recommend picking up a piece or two of outerwear - a nice seersucker (more formal) or linen (quite relaxed and casual) blazer would make great additions to your wardrobe. You'll also want a coat to keep you out of the rain, when it does rain, look at lighter rain-coats. You could get a rather cheap & cheerful packable coat from K-Way on the lower end of the spectrum, but look at Spring/Summer offerings without any kind of insulation from technical brands like White Mountaineering or Arc'teyrx Veilance. If you're into something a bit heavier and more traditional, look at Mackintosh & Barbour (the Japan line has some great slimmer-cut waxed jackets).
In shirting you're not that limited, short of not wearing wool, but look at button-downs in linen & seersuck as I said before, or even just standard all-cotton stuff. I'm not big on t-shirts, but again, you can probably get away with rather standard ones. I have a nice cupro-blend t-shirt from YY that I wear quite often in the heat, very light and billowy.
Pants, again, you can wear most things provided it's not 20oz denim, thick wool slacks or insulated BDUS. Labels like Ann Demeulemeester & Yohji have both produced some great pairs of pants in linen or light-weight wool gabardine. You can wear chinos, cords, lightweight (under 14oz) jeans and other things as well, essentially everything that takes your fancy.
Again, you can wear most footwear, perhaps stay away from insulated boots and such - a good pair of breathable leather-lined suede or leather brogues would be a great addition, as well as a decent pair of sneakers.
I'd say the major things to stay away from in the heat is too much layering.

I think I know who you're talking about, but it's slipping my mind as well. This is going to be on my mind all day.
