How do i learn to draw in a western style?
Everyobe makes fun of me for my interest in japanese popculture, i only draw in the anime styles and i think western art is fucking disgusting and i fucking hate it and i hate western music.
So how do i find a western style thats not fucking ugly to draw in that isn’t disgusting?

I'm newbie at anything art. I started doing lowpoly 3d in Blender and the whole process feels natural and I'm just intuitively doing things and improve and feel fine. I also picked 2d and bought cheap but good xp-pen, but for some reason I feel completely lost compared to 3d. Some things sometimes randomly work out, but often not. Also I'm surprised how incredibly long it takes to do some basic lineart over sketch for example. I'm mostly doing anime faces so far, maybe not the easiest thing to start with, but one idea I had, maybe I should try to do vector instead? The thing about vector which seems promising is that it's very similar to 3d: you draw using objects and move points and can adjust them infinitely until it makes sense. If I want to do some anime character arts which later I can trace in Blender to get 3d characters, do you think vector can work for me? Also, do you think it can work to construct anime character lineart in vector then export into raster and paint over it with raster techniques?

Thanks for suggestions!
> That method of creating art would be torturous for creating an anime character to use as reference material, for your 3D modeling. You're just going to have to learn to draw, and put in the time to do it.
But why is that so? Is it just inherently more hard to do stuff in vector? If you lets say put the same amount of effort into skills in both drawing by hand and drawing using vector tools, will it still be easier/faster to do stuff by hand than using vector tools?

I just tried to do some very very basic generic eyes from tutorials in the Inkscape, and it felt it took me pretty much the same time as drawing on tablet, maybe even less. And I had absolutely zero idea what I'm doing, I just fucked around with stuff in toolbars. I know it's shit, but when trying the same style from tutorials on tablet, I had similar shitty results too (yeah, I'm just really bad at this atm). But with vector it seems it's much easier to adjust stuff. Also it's kinda "reusable", you can save those shapes and then build a face from presets vectors you made and sligthly adjust them for variation. Kinda "modular" approach.

It's sorta like doing realistic portraits with textmode or low resolution pixel art, yeah it's definitely possible, but you're going to be struggling against the medium's methods - same when it comes to vector art and what you want to do with it.

But hey, if you think it's a viable method based on what you're doing, then it is. Just because I personally wouldn't do it that way, doesn't mean it won't work for you.
It sounds to me that you already have a good grasp on how vector art is made, and if you think it's viable, then go for it.
Though I still think drawing abilities will only prove helpful, but you do you.

Do you have any technical examples of this in mind?
For me it's just not obvious why redoing whole strokes or even layers (if you're not happy how it turned out), is more convenient or faster than moving points around and changing parameters.

>> No.7172012

>>7171946
>Do you have any technical examples of this in mind?
It's just that if you're going to be making somewhat complex characters using the 'building block' sort of approach of vector art, I feel your going to be spending a lot of time adjusting the placement of the different shapes (before combining them) to get the overall shape you want. Otherwise, you may use the pen tool, but are you going to free hand the pen tool to create your drawing, if you find drawing regularly to be too difficult? I'm just going off my own experiences with making vector images - I like doing it, but I definitely wouldn't use it for the kind of work you're going for, but like I said earlier, if you you think it'll work for you, it may well do so.

Actually, I recall having a one time friend who would make very complex drawing right in illustrator with the pen tool, with no sketches or anything to guide him, you may well be similar.

>For me it's just not obvious why redoing whole strokes or even layers (if you're not happy how it turned out), is more convenient or faster than moving points around and changing parameters.
If you feel like it's all good, go for it. To me it seems that you have a good idea of how to approach vector art, and if you think this method is viable, you're probably right. If not? You'll find out pretty quickly - that's experimentation, baby.

Japan's cost of living is a fraction of the cost of living in a country that trades in dollars. You can probably get by on a part-time job over there (probably assistant work) as long as you're willing to live in a shoebox. That's honestly probably the biggest advantage, because yes, in other countries you'll probably be forced to live with your parents/in a sharehouse, not a great environment for focusing on making comics. It is possible though.

Someone told me this about Kim Jung Gi, that the amount of clutter & detail made it hard to "read." But to me it's part of the appeal, like "Where's Waldo" it takes time to decipher.
There's the term "horror vacui" (fear of the empy) used to describe art filled with detail/clutter, and while it often goes against clarity this art can be fun to look at.

For oil painting, how the FUCK do I replicate daylight lighting?
>paint at night
>"it's beautiful"
>next day see it with natural light:
>smudged trash

I can't stop painting at 6pm, I wake up at 2pm.
