Why you should not trust youtube shills:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VH1WEYF8rlA
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Twy5Wo8m284

Do not read anything into pressure levels. 1024 is more than enough.
If you have any additional questions, ask them.
Remember to ignore all chinese shills.

Recommended tablets:

>Screenless:
Intuos 3, 4, 5, Pro, One by Wacom

>Display:
Small (10-11"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S6 Lite
Medium (12-16"): Samsung Galaxy Tab S8/S9 Ultra, used iPad Pro 12.9"
Large (22"+): Wacom Cintiq 22, Cintiq Pro 27 - Make sure they have VESA standard mounting holes.

>Avoid:
XP-Pen, Huion, Gaomon and every other Chinese brand making Wacom imitations.
Poor build quality, pens with wavy lines, wobbly nibs, broken tilt, issues registering light pressure, terrible customer support, uncalibrated. All Chinese brands have the same problems. Check out the webm to understand how bad they are.
Do not be fooled by myths like "Chink companies are just as good as Wacom now" - they've been saying this for over 8 years, nothing has really changed. Consider reading the amazon reviews, particularly the negative spectrum and you will find some very common themes.
Chinese companies have also been proven to shill on 4chan. Someone in the /csg/ general on /g/ once got an email from Gearbest asking him to post positively about them on the "csg chinkshit general thread". You will very likely see dozens upon dozens of aggressive, insult-laden posts in this thread, especially whining about the OP. They are from the shill department.

>Microsoft Surface Pro
More optimized for palm rejection than good quality drawing. Wobbly lines when drawing slow and straight.

>Cintiq 13-16"
Completely outclassed by the Galaxy Tab Ultra & iPad

>Cintiq Pro 16, 24, 32
Overpriced, QC issues, loud fans, proprietary mount interface

>Lenovo
Worse than Samsung in every way.

all of them? seriously, just pick the cheapest available in your region, brandnew wacom's screenless models are stupidly expensive for minimal size so avoid that, you are fine with huion, xp-pen, or if you find some second hand wacom but they are probably also inflated in price, in most cases a medium-sized huion or xp-pen works for you, wich are larger than the average wacom medium size but for much less price, and of course all models have much more than 1k pressure level, the standard now is around 4k.
My advice is, buy any that came out after 2020-21 and you are ok, of those 3 brands, the most affordable for you, in medium size.

Pro tip /ic/ if you want a large 22 inch plus tablet but are too broke to shill out for one, it's possible to pick up a previous gen Cintiq 22HD on eBay for cheap. Last I checked they're listed screen only for about 200-250, got one best offer 150 free shipping. Aim for a more recent manufacturing date.

Need a pen, power brick, DVI to HDMI dongle, and stand/vesa arm if you don't have one. Intous 3/4 pen works already if you have, otherwise buy a wacom grip pen. 3rd party power brick from Amazon works, and I have the Amazon Basics ergotron lx clone to mount it on.

These tablets were animation industry standard for years and that's why so many are being sold off by electronics recyclers as studios upgraded to the latest 4k display models. These things are built like tanks, and they're extremely comfortable to work on. Only 1080p and 2048 pressure but still felt like an upgrade compared to an 8192 XP-Pen lol. Wacom tech just better. Also has a ton of useful express keys that the new models lack

>tl;dr
for around $150-400 you can piece together a working Cintiq 22HD and get a fantastic drawing experience for a fraction of the price of brand new large tablets. Don't underestimate the power of buying used.

Ps. For those of you who aren't poor I also got a chance to try that new Xencelabs 24 inch tablet. Drawing experience felt really good, side by side with a Cintiq Pro 24 and 27 couldn't tell a difference and it's 1000 bucks cheaper.

A few benefits are the better build quality and more premium feel, more buttons and touchstrips to work with, and the Wacom tech. It's a significantly more viable upgrade path if you are coming from an Intous 3 or 4 because having a pen saves you like 70/80 bucks. For me I also already had an arm which I was using for my xp pen so in total the tablet plus the adapter and power brick was only a little over 200 which is more than half off the Huion.

>> No.6887211

>>6887199
Keep in mind the 22HD was a nearly 2000 dollar device and was built primarily for industry use while the XP-Pens and Huions tend to be more consumer grade. It's like 18 pounds and has metal construction inside while my "Artist pro" from XP pen was thin and plastic. The quality to cost ratio of getting one for under 200 is honestly ridiculous

I honestly don't understand how a general about tablets has a back and forth middle east war for years on end. You buy a tablet, if it sucks because you did not read online reviews you return it. No stress. Once you buy it, you draw with it, thus the need for his threads purposes closes for you until the tablet breaks in 10 years.

There could be an endless thread war over Vilppu Vs Proko and the daily slurs are

>> No.6893123

>>6893091
no one understands. Both threads are basically nothing but samefags bumping their useless shit. The rare times someone actually makes a thread asking for tablet advice, it gets like 10 posts and then falls off. This isn't a topic people actually care about, or one that has enough to discuss for a general. It could be a question brought up in the brush/asset general any time someone needed advice and that would be more than sufficient.

Agreed, the problem with Tabs is and will continue to be AndroidOS or w/e the name is
They only have Clip Studio (prob all u need for illustration) to stay competitive but severely lack in the graphic design department with no Adobe ports and a plethora of other creative apps, not to mention app support in general
Samsung already knows how to manufacture Windows x Wacom devices like the Galaxy Book line which is the "tablet" I use to draw and it works flawlessly, but it's still Wacom One EMR pen tech, not ideal now that we're on Pro Pen 3 already
I think both Apple and Samsung are getting ready for a "Studio" device warfare in the upcoming years, if Samsung doesn't do anything the Ultra line will eventually die and they'll be forced out of the premium tablet market

problem with the Wacom One Pen is that it only works -properly- on the Wacom One itself, one of the shittiest tablets in the market
It's the only tool that requires desktop OS but it's the only one that allows you to calibrate everything with Wacom's drivers suite
Everything else, like the Samsung Tab line and other compatible tablets, only carry the default EMR tech so you have no way of calibrating any kind of pressure or related settings different than factory settings
source: i own a galaxy book 3, which has windows + wacom emr, it still doesnt identify any Wacom product (and im using a Wacom One pen) so the Wacom drivers dont work, everything is default

Is it worth getting this, "Wacom - Intuos Graphic Drawing Tablet?" I don't see this (assuming) newer version in the op so I'm not sure if it's worth it or not. I'm debating getting the small version from best buy because it went on sale for $40 from $60. I tried looking for a used intuos 3,4,5 but they all seemed around 30-40 so I figured I might as well get the new one.

Is there some feature or something that makes this (assuming) new one not as good?

This is my first time with a display that's laminated and it's hella nice.
Not too sure about the pro pen 3 yet, maybe I just have to get used to it (it's mainly the no eraser part). The added weight thing is nice. Feels comfy. I assumed the interchangeable sleeves was some flimsy nylon rubber but no, these are actually nice.
The pen holder thing is kinda yikes.
The joystick controller keys is also kinda yikes for me at least. It probably would've made more sense if I bought the $500 stand (lmao) but I have it on an arm and my free hand naturally goes to my keyboard.
They at least give you a free stand though.
There's a fan but I can't hear it because my PC is louder. In other words, it's relatively quiet.

Samsung has this odd thing of detecting pressure differently if you use the tip. Imagine the curve going all down to 0.

Personally i want to get a 16 display but im between some 16 model from xpen or the cintiq 16. I just want a good stylus thats just as responsive and light for activation force.

what do you call it when you get "sticky: stylus and it leavings fine hairlines wisps all over the screen??
As in it still detects strokes when the stylus is off the screen but hoover over it, and instead of just registering the XY movement,m it keeps drawing thins mono pixel lines???

I don't think so.
I've used the Clip Studio tabmate, the Bluetooth remote for the left hand, but not when the wisps occur.

It's like windows sticky keys, where the screen continues to register the contact points as if there was a phantom line clinging on to the stylus like a hot glue gun.
Along with producing unwanted thin lines, it keeps on catching on menu tabs when I switch tools, dragging them out of place.

XP-pen, when it works it's fine, and it was an expensive gift, I don't want to feel disrespectful, but you do get what you pay for.

Change the Performance preference: Videocard to Processor.

The glue effect will still happen when zoomed out on a large canvas and especially if you make many strokes in rapid succession so try going slower on a smaller canvas and use small, uncomplex brush sizes only. If changing to Processor performance and going a bit slower helps then you need to invest in a graphic card. An old cheap one will do with about 2GB onboard video memory. It'll be buttery smooth after that. You'll have to switch back to using the Video card of course in the Performance settings.

Also, try other programs. SAI is super light and does line art extremely well and the newest PS was so heavy it even stuttered on my PC. Use PS 2020 or 2021. CSP is pretty light.

Spent about the last year working completely on the 12.9” M2 iPad Pro with Clip Studio, handles just about everything i was doing on my mac before.
Only thing I’m really missing is a good file system. Really tough to sort and arrange images without something like Adobe Bridge. Also feels just slightly cramped. Tempted to try the Samsung GB3-Pro360, but I’ll probably end up carrying both.

I'd get you into a fucking hospital for the mentally retarded if you bought a Mobile Studio right now.

The thing has literally not been updated in 8 years and has terrible cooling capabilities in the form they're currently in.

It's LITERALLY a generation behind all of Wacom's other tech right now.

Fucking worst advice I've ever seen in these threads, even with all the fucking schizos and constantly racial shitposting. Be proud that you managed to outretardgun the people that are retarded on purpose.
