The problem is that a lot of web companies want to go public and investors are incredibly prudish, that and adult content is just a marketing nightmare, so adult content is a terrible investment. The rest is just the exact same process of enshitification that hits every other website: developers get to a point where it's more profitable to prioritize advertisers (therefor any prospective investors) over users.

It gets mocked to hell and back for good reason, but every artist should hope that their website ends up like Tumblr, and not some fucking will-they-won't-they like Twitter. Tumblr's ban was such a clean sweep that most artists didn't have to balance their audience their with the opportunity costs of going to another site because Yahoo made the decision for them. I work for a bank and credit card issuer (not credit card network company like Visa or MC). These things are typically not company wide initiatives, it's usually some high-up assholes trying to make a name for themselves for performance reviews, or some committee or work group that gets together to push for the enforcement of "culture".
