From what I've experienced those anime avatar uber-PC people are just FOMO laden sheeple. They know anime is in right now so they wanna be cool so you see them with an anime avatar and they claim to love anime even tho they've only seen what twitter tells them to watch I.E Demon Slayer & AoT. So when they see something like Kiss X Sis they refer to their twitter programming and bug out on Japan.
