>“Hmph. This one finds tonight’s aperitif tolerable, Bloodbag.” said the Countess de Cumberland. The tall woman’s skin, moments before a sickly pale, was now flushed and vibrant. Her ruddy eyes swam with intensity as they always did soon after feeding. Soon the appearance of emotion waned, and the daily mask of indifference was firmly back in place. The tall woman held out her opera glove clad hand wordlessly, and the man behind her placed a handkerchief in her open hand.

>This man, Bloodbag as the Countess named him, was unable to mask the emotions swimming in his brown eyes. His longing for the Countess was obvious, even to an ignorant child like Svetlana. The Countess usually ignored him, aside from her mockery and commands. But for the emotions in his eyes, the mild man accepted the Countess’s treatment. He was servant and larder, according to the Countess, a curious piece of furniture meant to be used at her whim.

>Svetlana de Cumberland had to come to the realization that Bloodbag was her father by herself, no one mentioned it. It took much much longer for the little Dhampir to realize that the frigid Countess was her mother. Unlike Bloodbag’s caring demeanor and concern towards her, the Countess de Cumberland hardly cared to look at Svetlana. Too imperious to unbend for a child, the Countess left the many small attentions needed to satiate the uncertain souls of children to her servants. The personal attention the Countess gave Svetlana consisted of a long and impenetrable set of demands for her ‘heir’. For a very long time Svetlana thought the word referred to some kind of unusual servant. Only later did she realize how strangely unerring her childish intuition truly was, for that matched the Countess’s demands far more closely than any dictionary’s definition.

Precisely why are vampires bad? Being an unimpressive mom/wife isn’t enough of a motive to destroy random candlesticks and give a vampire an epic beatdown. It’s not even a good enough reason for the candlestick x vampire sodomy correction I was planning. Why exactly do vampires deserve brutal sexual correction?
