Lately I've been reading a few books, and they have been giving me a few ideas. One of the books has told me that research shows that religious belief can significantly improve your quality of life in many ways, completely irrelevant of what specific beliefs you actually hold. Particularly I find it interesting how it might brighten your view of the world as a whole, and how you'll have a higher sense of purpose in everything you do. I'd gladly sacrifice some of my rationality to achieve those effects.

The other book suggested that faith is not innate or the result of ignorance, but that it's an ability and one that can be learned. The book never verified this in any way, but I find the idea very interesting and I think it explains how all religions across all cultures have rituals; they're one of the ways you can increase your faith.

Now, we've joked about this a few times, worshiping touhous or other 2D girls or the concept of 2D itself. The whole concept of going to Gensokyo when you die has obvious roots. But what if we actually did it seriously? What if, working on the assumption that ignorance is not a prerequisite for belief, I went out and studied what motivates people across cultures to believe, and used these as principles to design my own religion, where I worship exactly what I want? I think something truly amazing could come out of this idea.
