“…Let me get this straight: Tsukasa spread the rumor about Kanako visiting the brothel to weaken us, and the same person who’s working with her cursed you. This is ploy is between Yukari and Tsukasa, and you can’t tell Megumu to cut it off because she has too much faith in her assistant. So, since Tsukasa’s accomplice wore accessories similar to Kasen’s to frame her, you and Hatate ran an article detailing exactly that to empower us and make Tsukasa believe she threw you off her trail?” Suwako could hardly believe the words coming out of her mouth.

Aya shook her head affirmatively. “Pretty much.”

“And your two pieces of evidence are Tsukasa leaving the Hakurei Shrine Experience and a robe that has accessories sown into it similar to Kasen’s that the assailant wore?” The first bit was admittedly solid. The second, however…

“And my curse! One that someone that practices Makai’s style of magic left! It definitely isn’t Kasen, at the very least.”

“Right. Now how does this convince me that you aren’t crazy? You’re still planting explosives around the mountain and arming yourself with pipe bombs.” Although Suwako could faintly understand Aya’s position, she was still quite a bit too dangerous to trust.

“Megumu herself was undermined by Tsukasa and her cohort. That doesn’t fly. If the business deal with Yukari is turning the tengu against each other, it’ll be much easier to convince Tenma-sama to break it off! All I have to do is catch those two and make them pay for their transgressions!”

After everything the land goddess heard today, she sat by the lake’s edge to ponder the tengu’s words. Aya enjoyed the ever-present breeze, focusing on her own goals and preparing for the worst outcome. When Suwako was ready to reconvene, Aya slipped a hand towards her maple-leaf fan in preparation. She wasn’t going down without a fight—not now…

Standing straight in a dignified pose, Suwako cracked a smile and held out an open palm for Aya. The tengu accepted, then pulled away when a toad hopped out of Suwako’s sleeve onto her own hand. “That seals it! Welcome to the team, Aya! This is a convoluted mess, but we’ll help out with your issue as much as we can. You just have to do one little favor for Kanako and me.”

Overjoyed as she was, Aya was still a little worried about the new conditions. “And that would be?”

The froggy goddess walked a little closer to Aya’s and spoke in a subdued voice. “When you’re setting up your spots, just be a little bit clumsy. Maybe drop a few pipes between backdoors? On accident, of course. In very obnoxious spots for Okina to retrieve them from.”

Bombing Okina wouldn’t work. Aya had already considered it. Maybe by ‘obnoxious spots’ she was emphasizing reconnaissance on the Land of the Backdoors? No, she wouldn’t need to drop anything… it was a ruse!

“Dang it, you should have tricked me with a ripped bag or something. Now that I know it’s a farce, Okina will probably read my mind through my backdoor and grill me for dinner.”

Suwako just blew her complaints off. “Really? You’re telling me a tengu can’t figure out how to lie to themselves?”

“It’s not as fun when you know about it! Besides, I’m an honest reporter, I can’t help but think about the truth.” Aya gave her a wink out of reflex.

“Yeah yeah, just do it however you think will work best. Since that’s taken care of, head over to the ravine to get your bombs. You’ll have to do a few runs for the trick to work.”

Aya was confused. She mentioned yamawaro connections, but not whom. “But… my sources aren’t in the ravine alone?”

With a loud rumble, a large onabashiri unearthed itself next to Suwako, which she gave a knock. “Kanako’s taking care of that. Now you have kappa and yamawaro manufacturers!” Hopping up on top of it, the goddess had a satisfied grin when she saw Aya’s confusion. “Icons have more power than just gathering faith, ya’ know!”

“Wait… did Kanako hear everything?” Shit, she heard Aya call her lonely!

“Yep! And she couldn’t do a damn thing about it! Ahahahahaha!” Suwako jabbed the onabashiri with her elbow. “So Yasaka, how’s it fell to know both of your faithmongers know exactly how you’d like to treat Anon?” If wood could blush, Aya believed the giant stake would have turned into sequoia before her eyes.
