Surely you've heard the great race tale of the Chinese zodiac?
>The Jade Emperor or the Buddha call a meeting of 12 animals
>those who arrive will be be awarded a place on the calendar based on the order in which they do so
>the journey involves crossing a grand river
>ox is a strong swimmer and gets across
>the rat is clever, and so hitches a ride on ox and jumps off her head near the shore to win
>tiger is also a good swimmer and gets third place
>rabbit uses agility to cross river stones and secures 4th
>based dragon could have just flown, but was so busy helping people that she only swooped in for 5th
>horse runs in with snake wound around her leg, but is so startled when she notices this fact that she kicks snake ahead to 6th and places 7th
>goat, monkey, and rooster are BFFs that help each other across and achieve 8th, 9th, and 10th
>dog is the best swimmer, but has too much fun in the water and paddles around until she's almost late and gains 11th
>pig stops for a meal and shows up late
>cat drowns because fuck cheticores

But what the tale doesn't mention is what these men did afterwards. Why were the Jade King and the Buddha in such a rush to leave after their meetings? Sure, they used the "oh I have to ascend to heaven" excuse. But we know the real reason.

And that's why every year is the year of the fox.
