does anyone else get eyestrain from reading manga with furigana? my eyes automatically go to it even if i know the kanji, and the scans are usually bad enough that it's hard to make out. my eyes are fucking sore right now this can't be healthy

For hardcore VN players is it better to have a W7 partition for your japanese games and do everything else in linux or just use linux+wine?

Here's an interesting idea I've had recently in regards to language learning... Does anyone feel like it's really geared towards programmers? At first I thought it was just in my head. Oh yeah, I'm a programmer, so I must be subconsciously clicking on video guides which happen to be made by other programmers. I must be seeking out the best learning tools, which are of course made by other programmers, as who else would have the ingenuity to make those things? But that isn't it entirely. There are so many Japanese learners who are software engineers and programmers, probably more so than any other profession. But then again... It makes sense, doesn't it? If I and most programmers can learn another programming language effortlessly in a matter of hours, than learning to speak a language should be an easy task as well. We chose Japanese, because, let's face it, most of us programmers are massive nerds. Nothing's wrong with that, but it's true. We all love Japanese anime, food, and porn. And programmers, well, we are usually the dedicated type. To work on a project every day for 5 months is the definition of dedication. So we start learning Japanese, and it isn't as easy as we thought it would be, but we enjoy it; we nerds enjoy our challenges. And since we started learning it and saw the challenge, well, just like programming, we might as well continue! Maybe it's just me, but as they say, where there's smoke, there's fire.....
