As long as you don't go balls to the wall in treading on other's stories, including your characters where they don't belong, or jump the gun like the cirnowriter did I don't think anyone would have grounds to genuinely dislike the silly story of tene or you as a writer.

Our only perspective is the Japanese one insofar as that goes, the only modern youkai we see are Nue and Mamizou who found ways to adapt. Across the ocean its very possible that there are still youkai considering how spiritual and superstitious people still are even in the west outside western Europe.

The only issue is going back to that specieless youkai getting snubbed in this deal. By removing fear and some superstion, like how the yamabiko are dying out cause the villagers stopped believing that echos in the mountain are all their work, would cause the fear of a lot of them to fade and thus kill some off.
However, species like the tengu, kappa, hell ravens, and oni would be uplifted as a part of the foundations of human belief in their new technological life. As all those would play a part in maintaining the power and other future infustructure.
Kanako will ride the wave as she stated herself in uplifting herself and being able to return to the outside world as she pleases to reap the benefits of becoming the omnimessiah, but theres no doubt that even the lazy villagers would lose some of their superstitious beliefs and replace them with new ones.
Its a good plan for Kanako, but one inherently dangerous without many precautions taken.
