does anyone here also know chinese? i would really appreciate some advice

i am both interested in learning japanese and chinese but don't know with which one i should start

- i have some light jp knowledge (kana, basic grammar etc.) from a failed learning attempt

- i'll probably start uni in around 1-2 years which will also include some chinese courses and the opportunity for a student exchange after a few semesters

- i'm planning on using the heisig method for the kanji/hanzi

which one should i learn first?

should i rather learn some japanese until then and then learn both simultaneously or should i completely focus on chinese for now and then learn japanese afterwards because it would be easier? to be honest, i am more interested in jp media, but chinese seems pretty fun too so my motivation is kinda the same with both of them.
