Big eyes is an understatement. The proportions are off enough to be genuinely creepy. The mouths are practically parallel with the eyes, and it looks uncanny even on still images. She's improved a lot since then (see https://vndb.org/v25583, which coincidentally is being written by Ryukishi), but between kanon and clannad, the faces looked weird as fuck and everybody knew it
