I don't get your point about the party. Wouldn't that be the time when Yukari would be the most distracted? It'd be occurring as Yukari is getting up to her shenanigans. Ultimately however Kasen getting to it is something I can live with.
The big issue is that the magical circles were supposed to cast a spell and then destroy themselves. I suppose Kasen could have caught them while the spell wasn't finished but even then she wouldn't be able to get much out of it as they were masked to appear as though the work of the Dragon God.
I get if you want to smother that plot point in the cradle and you obviously didn't know my plans for how the magic worked, but I dislike how it was handled. The sage with pretty much 0 connection to Western magic being able to find, safely disable, and then be able to identify the magic in the span of a post is what feels cheap IMO.
