Accel World panders to pathetic males providing them with an ample serving of male wish fulfillment, with an emphasis on ugly males. The main character really just represents a male with any form of physical inadequacy, packaged into the body of an obese male for accessibility.

The primary conclusion one can draw from this is that Trevor likely falls into this category of physically inadequate males. This can be easily observed by the author's success in convincing Trevor that he has obtained ownership over the female characters.

Well its hardly a theory, the pandering to the male audience is quite overtly in your face. And its not like the idea of male wish fulfillment being a core value in otaku media is anything new.

The difference here is that your typical viewer will notice the grossly out of place relationship between the MC and female characters, even if in the form of a slight uneasiness. Its not like this would stop one from enjoying it but it does help to provide a barrier for any significant attachment.

Thats where individuals like Trevor come in, they're actually so completely pathetic that they manage to overcome this barrier. This can even go to the extent in the extremely pathetic example of Trevor, where he claims ownership over female characters, that are more or less defined by their unrealistic relationship with the MC. Truly pathetic people, I'd say the term subhuman is most fitting for these individuals.
