The problem with TM VNs is not just the VN themselves(the whoel Nasuverse gets dragged most of the time), it's all the extra material, sources and ridiculous amount of fanwork that overrides the original perception you have when you read the VN.
Same thing with Touhou.

The prologue to Extravaganza consists of you playing a male protagonists insect user, but while your fleeing a battle(jumping off a roof to be exact) you happen to land on a vehicle killing Yumemi's parents. He knows nobody will come looking for her so he starts to use her as a nursery to breed more insects for battle use. While waiting for the bugs to hatch he happens to remember a "Legenedary Egg" that he stole from his village before abandoning it, since he's got a nursery and all he decides to try it out. After it hatches, he thinks it to be absolutely useless and kills it. Throughout the prologue he kills it many many times but it keeps coming back to life, all the while always following Yumemi around, which for the longest time she hates it. Eventually she starts to love it though, and that's when the guy tells her he's gonna kill it for sure next time(He doesn't actually care, he's just saying this to mess with her but she takes it literally). Soon after she gets the courage to kill him, out of motherly love basically.

That's when the story begins, the branching system in this game is very unique and I highly suggest not playing this without a walkthrough. You can, but prepare to be very annoyed especially if you're going for a full clear.

*NOW*I explain why I think this game needed to be explained more in detail. The name "black cyc" really doesn't have a whole lot of meaning until you play Extravaganza. For starters let's mention a few other black cyc titles: GSS was more of a love story that just happened to have some gore in it. And Gun-katana was....well I don't quite know how to explain that one, but it was also just another story that *happened* to have some gore in it. Extravaganza is on a whole other level, I think the only consensual scenes was on the yuri route.

This game diverges more towards being disgusting, then just straight up gore. It has very very few good ends, and even one of the good ends to me was the most disgusting ending, but also way too awesome at the same time. Even with that said though, it's not just blood,guts,insects, and gore. Extravaganza actually has a pretty good story, I love the way you start out as a child, have many routes as a teenager, and there is even some routes as an adult. But again....disgusting

While alot of people will disagree with me, these are also the people(me included)who love this kind of stuff and watch/play it all the time(fapping to tentacles, gore, insects etc.). Let it be known that this review is directed at the normal people, the ones interested in black cyc titles but have never played any of them, or maybe one-two.

To be more precise with what I'm trying to state, let's use Ixrec as an example. Did you see the end of his review on GSS? "and what I can only describe as "explosive tentacular dismemberment". (for the record, I never felt physically sick, but still, WOW...)" . If just looking at the GSS CG's or playing through the gore scenes in that game bothered any of you, then....heh. Well all I can say is good luck on Extravaganza.
