I dunno, he/they translated a Heiantei game and I thought there weren't any tools for it.
I don't know why you'd doubt a he/they would have their own tools. They made their own competently made website and crawled vndb of all the data so obviously there's a level of technical expertise

The text being cut off and such is because they don't give a shit. They just MTL it and call it a day. They don't test it.

I doubted that they make their own translation tools because they're too lazy to test anything. I thought why would they make tools when they give up on Tanuki/Kaeru Soft so easily. They could make a tool to extract only the script without code but they gave up immediately. They release patches for VNs they know they can easily work with. That's why I was surprised to see KxKxK there. I have dozens of tools and try to archive every one I find. I hate the technical hurdles of VN translation.

I wanted to try translating some old and obscure Atelier Kaguya VNs for learning and practice, but I've never done more than just hook and extract text. I have no idea what tools to use or where to look for tools to actually alter the files and produce a translated version of a VN for others to enjoy. I would venture to guess Chaos;Head and Dungeon Travelers started to begin people complaining about how Steam's review process is unfair and makes zero sense. It has become more vocal in recent months in other spheres. This is along with GOG gaining slight amount of ground and Switch Eshop selling rejected Steam titles like Moero Chronicle Crystal H and even accepting the Uncensored bathroom mini game with Mugen Souls and Mugen Souls Z that is censored on Steam. It is putting pressure on Valve to accept the VN titles over time and relaxing their rules more.

I wonder this as well. There is also the VN promotion happening in August which should help give some spotlight. I wonder if they are trying to get back into good graces near that time and do not want to hear negativity in regards to their rejections and approvals from the VN companies on their policies.

Any changes to the review process would have likely been entirely because of Chaos;Head drawing negative press, with Valve at the time having said:

>Valve's content review team, the group that made the original decision, has re-examined CHAOS;HEAD NOAH and decided to reverse course and allow the game to ship on Steam, as is. We've also examined the process that led to the previous decision about CHAOS;HEAD NOAH, and made some changes to avoid situations like this in the future.

That said, while there has been a noticeable lack of bans in the 9 months since the Chaos;Head reversal, the content in titles being released on Steam is just as censored as ever, with more content in general ending up in off Steam patches.

>> No.43835329

>>43835022
MG sort of screwed themselves by not really committing to anything. They just meandered about and ended up never being able to maintain a solid userbase with their constant pivots. Their attempt to pivot out of eroge and into the all-ages steam market while also developing their own all-ages title really burnt a lot of older customers and then when they went back into eroge they grabbed really bad titles and opted to keep mosaics in quite a few of them which alienated another set of longtime customers, then they had the horrendously awful idea of licensing the massively butchered version of Kuroinu and then charging $75 for a version with 66% of the script cut out and the plot cut apart and forcibly restitched back together in a way that made no sense to ensure it had 3 heroines per release. Not to mention most recently they allowed Alicesoft to release their version of Evenicle 2 on their storefront with mosaics which upset basically whatever non-fujo audience they had left because it showed how little MG cared about their customers.

Now with Shiravune sniping all of their developer partners, there's no point in buying from MG to "encourage the licensing and releasing" of sequels/other titles from that developer and MG doesn't have any niche or standout power from their brand like say JAST does.

I don't think it is particularly wise long term to routinely make releases as cut as Nukitashi or the KoiKumi is, but most titles don't require cuts anywhere near that level.

Without getting to that extensive of cuts though, a flaw for MangaGamer in general is that they have continued to operate with the idea that it is the norm to play through an all ages Steam version without an all ages patch (likely dating back to when some of their early games got boosted by Streamers, like Princess Evangile), without noticing that googling and downloading a patch for Steam games has since become normalized by the broad Steam audience, and thus there isn't all that much reason anymore to go out of your way to make the best possible Steam build that you can.

Shiravune have probably already made their money back with Nukitashi because of steam sales. Arguing that they shouldn't have cut it up to put on steam is a bit silly when looking at the numbers.

Valve could put price caps on it, but instituting a platform wide "minimum level of quality" for publishing would be a shit ton of work that Valve wouldn't want to do to deal with some edge cases, as there have been far more compelling reasons for Valve to have done that than a release like this over the years. Trying to do so would probably also just push stuff to "trial editions" or "early access" type versions of stuff where the short Steam release would be more readily explained.
