I've always though the idea of males obsessing about Touhou in a general manner seemed a bit weird in itself, but at the same time I wouldn't claim the same as you OP, even if only from experience alone. A decent amount of the doujin artists out there that produce Touhou yuri are men, even though there are a lot of females as well.

Most men don't care, but when you have a lot of free time like most Touhou fans you get bored and just make shit up like ships, I'm guessing.

I'm a bit curious regarding those fujoshi that abandon yaoi entirely for yuri, or never where into yaoi in the first place. I've heard that in japan there's a decent amount of girls that prefer yuri love stories to het or yaoi, and that most yuri titles indeed are shoujo-manga. Are these girls gay, or are they just... idk, in it for other reasons?

I wasn't expecting a deduction like this for /jp/, I'm a bit impress. It kinda reminds me why I like IkuxTenshi pairing. Might not make much sense in canon, but I like how Tenshi's spoiled/bratty personality clashes with Iku's collected and indifferent attitude. It's like one of those unlikely chic lit mach-ups, and while I'm not much for the genre I'm all for experimenting with Touhou in new ways.

In many ways I don't consider relationshipping any different from any other speculative topics, such as powerlevels or general theorizing.

Talking about shipping... Mine would be:
Aya x Sanae (pasteltel, of course)
Alice x Reimu (I just don't like Marisa)
Yuuka x Byakuren (maybe they met before, and cmon, who'd not love to violate that sexy monk days in days out and over and over and over again?)

Probably a bit too extreme to say no male cares about romance. If demographic threads are to be believed, /u/ is about 50% male and 50% female; and it's generally accepted that the male population is more interested in the moe moe stuff and the lesbians like hardcore stuff better.

For the most part, I generally don't care who gets shipped with who. As long as the writing/art/whatever is good, the pairing doesn't really matter. (Just look at Mitsumoto. Took a random pairing out of nowhere and made something amazing)

That said, there is definitely some pairings I prefer over others. For example I like Reimu/Yukari more then other pairings involving the two.
