I was a bit annoyed with how crammed SS felt, but I guess that does help with the "pre-civilization untamed wilderness feel". It did make me miss the wide-open spaces in TP and WW though, flying was fun but the wide-open area above the clouds didn't feel that big at all.

I'm one of those who enjoyed sailing. As for the Triforce quest, was I the only one who started doing that first thing after it became available? I did them one at a time, so when I couldn't progress anymore and had to finish collecting them I only had like 3 left.

I've gotten punished for hastily slashing quite a bit because of it, such as the pirate midboss and his electric hook. Block, try to slash, and I'd get shocked because I was slashing without thinking about his defense. Not only that, I like looking at my progress. I thought the first Ghirahim battle would be easy, but I ended up only barely beating him since I kept messing up my slashes. it's not really fair to compare the two because one is a derivative of a then-5-year-old snes game and one is a derivative of a then-1-year-old n64 game

they play exactly the same, except the items/abilities are condensed

the only things you can differentiate the two for are its dialogue and cool happenings. just read through the script and you'll be able to appreciate its empty, poignant quality. in mojaro, you have a moon that crushes everybody, ambiguous evil devil worshipers, and crazy loli. how can you argue with a premise like that? or are you too scared of living in a world where you're stuck in one place, every day was exactly the same, and nothing that you did mattered?

I prefer Midna to some robot.

Still, these partners have never really bothered me as much as people claim, maybe Navi's unskippable/unskimmable descriptions in OOT, which I remember were both rare and optional if you were dumb enough to press ^C when she told you to.

I don't count Navi because Navi was almost totally unrelated to the plot. Midna and Fi are important characters in their own right

I'm playing Skyward Sword right now and I'm noticing something drastically different from the previous games.

It has a really really japanese air to it, whereas the all the other games were either fairly neutral or pseudo-Celtic.

I'm actually noticing this trend occurring in many franchises nowadays.

>> No.8271986

Red Lions was a bro, sure he may talk alot at the beginning, but every Zelda starts with a wise old entity telling you the setting of the game. He also had a nice twist when you find out he's Daphnes Nohansen, also in the end he actually prevents Ganondorf from getting the triforce and sacrifices himself to save you.

I have trouble relating to people who thought Navi was annoying. When playing SS I kept thinking "Wow, the people who complain about Navi will hate this girl" because she just talks so much all the time. Navi was always efficient and straight to the point, but there are still people who hate her to this day.

Also Ezlo is probably my favorite companion-character. I also haven't played ST, I should, Zelda as your side-kick should be good.

I also don't love Midna. I don't hate her or anything, but I never liked her design that much. I prefer Fi over her.

>> No.8272015

Fi gets a "You called me?" dialogue with a "Oops no I goofed" option to send her away immediately. If you accidentally hit Navi's button you'd have to sit through her whole spiel no matter what.

Two or three boxes at most. And how do you hit the button by mistake?

Fi's dialogues are usually much longer, and she has so much dialogue scripted into the game, which you can't skip.

I didn't find any of them to be unbearable, and annoying would seriously be pushing it. But loving the overly wordy Fi and hating straight-to-the-point Navi just doesn't make any sense to me.

I think he's pushing at the wrong point of annoyance from Navi, it wasn't her dialogue that caused annoyance, it was the constant chirping of "Hey!" "Listen!" "Hello!" and all that when you're doing your own thing just to tell you to get on with the main quest. Midna's giggling wasn't much better. Fi doesn't do that shit at all, as far as I've seen. At most she makes your sword shine when she has more info.
