Why did you assume she was a space pirate instead of a regular pirate? That means you've probably already heard of / watched the anime in question.

This thread brings up fairly important meta-questions regarding the culture of /jp/.

1) Is it acceptable to watch /a/nime while having interest in /jp/ related things?

An argument FOR watching anime is that most /jp/ users were frequently browsers of /a/ in the first place, and is therefore justified in having an interest in anime

An argument against watching anime is that anime is shit, and somehow VN isn't.

2) Is it acceptable to talk about /a/nime on /jp/?

An argument FOR talking about anime on /jp/ is that, in case the anime is an adaptation, it is acceptable to talk about the anime in context of its source material. Clannad VN, Bakemonogatari novels, and specifically for the OP, Minisuka Pirates LN series.

Another argument FOR, is that the anime can be tied into a /jp/ related subject. Is Marika a touhou? What similarities between Marika and touhous exist? Fruitful discussion may arise from a philosophical pondering such as this one.

An argument against talking about anime is that /jp/ is not an anime board, and that all anime discussion must remain on /a/ because THEMS THE RULES, and going back to the first point, /jp/ users somehow don't watch anime eventhough most of us are in fact dirty Gringo immigr/a/nts from /a/.

>> No.8495216

>>8495158

I think anime discussion should be allowed on /jp/, without letting it take over the board. I mean, where should I go to discuss the latest episode of X show from this season? /a/ is shit for actual discussion, and non-anonymous communities are shitty circlejerks where some users with the largest amount of posts get their virtual cocks sucked by the other users. /jp/, aside from a small yet very vocal group of people, is good for discussion and taking it easy.

No no no no no. Don't pursue that line of thinking. /jp/ might be a better community, but that doesn't mean that anime and manga belong here. Anime and manga belong in the anime and manga board. In fact the very point of /jp/ was to restore /a/ to that status. Do not bring it here. I like mecha but I don't post mecha in /jp/ because I dislike /m/. Nor do I post cooking or paranormal threads here. You run the risk of basically turning this into "/a/ for grown ups" and when /a/ people hear that, they'll come here. In fact this is already happening. Your idea will only encourage it.
Keep topics in their appropriate boards. Granted there's some overlap between interests, but /jp/ was created specifically as a board to keep /a/ to anime and manga discussion. Let them have their threads, and we'll have ours. Don't turn /jp/ into a wildcard board like /a/ basically is now.

>> No.8495258

>>8495158
Anime and /jp/ hobbies go hand in hand. I don't know how you could think otherwise.

>> No.8495256

>>8495244
We've been a wildcard board since day 1, really. Japan/General and Otaku Culture are way too general and the moderation can never decide what is /jp/ material and what isn't.

Granted, but we still have a niche. I rarely visit /a/ but there are threads about everything from video games to dating there. They don't even seem particularly ostracized.
With /jp/ it's fairly clear what belongs and what doesn't. Too many people are autismal about, "Oh this isn't /jp/-related!" but I think it's fairly clear when something belongs. Yes we talk about some subjects covered by other boards (doujin games could go in /v/, kigurumi could go in /cgl/, etc) but as you said, we're a wildcard board. However bringing anime discussion here is very problematic and goes against the very reason /jp/ was created.
If you want a more obscure/mature 4chan board for anime, try >>>/anime/

>> No.8495287

>>8495270
I didn't mean it should be discussed here, just that a person who likes one generally likes the other.

>> No.8495294

>>8495244

Well, you have a point. I'd actually like this board to host the /a/ grownups, but it'd obviously serve as a magnet to all the kids of /a/ that think they are funny and mature, just like every teenager. The thing is, this board's official themes haven't changed since day one and it's still attracting a whole new generation of these kids. I don't think adding anime discussion would affect the evolution of the board too much.

>> No.8495305

>>8495283

Textboards are too slow to have meaningful discussion. Look, there's only been two posts today.

>> No.8495343

>kigurumi could go in /cgl/

The difference is that those megathreads have quality OPs. Kigurumi general has an informative OP with plenty of content being dumped, as with GUST threads eventhough they're clearly /v/ material.

So, I think the point here is that, if you think that your thread is not /jp/-related, at least put an effort into making it a QUALITY, INFORMATIVE thread that encourages mature discussion in the context of /jp/.

I don't think there is anything wrong with that. You could argue that it encourages more kids from /a/ to come over here, but that's already happening with secondaries anyway. They eventually start playing the touhou games and stop talking about IOSYS in the doujin threads.
