Help me, /jp/.

I don't want to shitpost but something's wrong with me. My memory has recently been failing. All sorts of things have been slipping my mind. I forget basic words and I can't even remember what I was doing an hour before. My memory used to be really good but all of a sudden... I don't know what happened ;_;

Has this happened to any of you? I'm scared that I might have a disease or something, but I'm hoping maybe it's because of my lifestyle habits. Can sleeping in the morning and waking up in the night cause memory loss? How about excessive masturbation? Any feedback would be helpful...

OK, you listened to my silly Youtube response so I'll try to give you legitimate advice. It may not be good advice in your situation, but it's advice.

>Can sleeping in the morning and waking up in the night cause memory loss? How about excessive masturbation?
No, but what are these things symptomatic of? More to the point, they're symptomatic of a lifestyle where you don't feel you're getting anywhere; you're spending time sleeping and masturbating because you can't think of anything else to do. I don't mean "getting anywhere" with regards to a job or something like that, but you don't feel like you're going anywhere in your personal life.

You may feel like your brain is in a fog of sorts, and that fog just clouds over your memory and thought process and stops you from even beginning to do the things you want. Probably the first thing you need to do is start on a project, maybe learning a language or whatever. All that matters is that you do it every day and don't make excuses for it. The fog will lift on its own, eventually, so long as you keep at whatever your personal goal is, every day, no matter what.

Then again, I could be wrong. This is just based on my own experience in dealing with something similar.

Hello OP. I'd like to try seriously helping you out.

I think your problem might be twofold: proper nutrition and proper exercise, problems I suspect most of /jp/ shares to some extent. Why don't you try that and see if your mind improves?

You might also try Brain Age for the DS.

You are right then because I've been eating one meal a day for a while now. I don't really exercise either. But are those things really related to my mind? I mean, I don't really feel hungry or anything... I never would have guessed.

Okay anon, I'm going to follow your advice. It'll probably be hard at first but I'll do as much as I can.

I was suggesting it might be a question of nutrition, not caloric intake. I'm not suggesting you stuff your face with calories you don't need, just that you make an effort to eat healthy.

Proper nutrition and exercise are both absolutely vital to your mind. You don't have to be /fit/, but staying in one position 16 hours a day (for example) will have a serious impact on your faculties.

Yeah, I'm ashamed to say it but I am guilty of that. I guess my life is a total wreck right now. I have a lot of things to fix!

I can't give you any guarantee since I can only tell you what worked for me, but it did when I tried it. An atmosphere of success, however minor the successes may be in the long run, contributes to a continued atmosphere of success. So long as you feel like you've done something, it should be fine.

Once again, don't get too absorbed in finding the perfect method for approaching whatever it is or you'll become mired in petty details and quit. Just find one goal and work towards it everyday, and don't stop for any reason, otherwise you'll make any and every excuse for stopping until you finally just give up.

Recall and vocab go down if you don't access those parts of your memory on a regular basis, specifically through conversation. Conversation forces the person to draw upon their personal lexicon on the fly in a way self-talk and your inner voice does not.

If you're worried about it, I'd suggest finding someone to interact with in this way, although I know that can be a scary thing for a lot of people.

You had a stroke, see a doctor.

And no, elevated heart rate or no, jerking off doesn't specifically cause that all by itself, so don't even bring it up.

And, like, don't worry about shitposting. Like, for instance, I don't really believe a word you're saying nor have I read the thread, but, like, I'm posting anyway.

That's interesting. I guess typing also isn't the same because you get more time to think about what to say and you can also fix errors.

Naw, man, that's the first thing they teach you about strokes man, people don't feel pain from it because the brain doesn't have any pain neurons in itself.

You just notice funkiness like memory gaps or brain function gaps or you can't move one side of your face or whatever random shit.

Whatever, like, see a doctor. And don't even bring up the j/o, seriously.

>> No.9323142

Depression, anxiety and other mental problems can take a toll on one's memory. Take note of your mental health generally.

Besides that, memory is something that improves and degrades with use. If you want to improve your memory, you should try purposefully using it. You can do this in many ways, though it may be the most efficient to train your memory with the things you want to remember.

For example, if you have trouble remembering everyday details from your life, you can set yourself the task of writing a diary every night, or making a list of what has happened every few hours (of course, you can do this in your head instead of actually writing, though it may be easier to start with actually writing down things). You can also revise these notes/lists (mental or physical) later, for example trying to remember what you did the day before.

As some have already mentioned, besides specifically aimed activity, anything mentally refreshing from memory games and puzzles to learning languages will be good for you.

Aahaha, I think I have this same problem too, except at at a slightly lesser magnitude.

Except, in my case, the possibility of a stroke is not entirely out of the question, since I frequently get chest pains and short time periods during which trying to take a full, deep breath feels like stabbing my own lungs with a knife.

Depression? If you don't know what you like anymore and shitpost 16 hours a day you might be pretty close to the point where you pick up the habit of staring at the wall for hours. At least that's when I started forgetting things and my thinking became so slow that others noticed it too.

It really depends. Are you returning to education because you have something you're legitimately interested in pursuing? Or is there no motivation aside from forcing yourself to do what others want you to do?

It's not that you can't find motivation for a subject while there, but I wouldn't count on something that is much less than certain. It really depends on whether you feel like you're accomplishing something personally valuable by gaining a degree. If you don't, you're going to struggle through and possibly drop out. If you do, then you'll likely get through, barring something dramatic.
