Is the Index LN series worth reading? I really enjoyed the Railgun LN side stories, but I understand Index has less "cute girls being cute" and more action. I like a nice balance.

So as someone who hasn't read any of the Light Novels, could someone summarize what they're about, and the relevance to the plot, exactly? I don't want to waste my time reading something that's essentially a pointless side story. Also I want to know whether to keep my expectations up or down depending on if it takes place on the Magic side or the Science side.

It was by the sheer grace of god that a highschool boy got his fanfic turned into an anime, but it's neither cool not interesting. And more often than not it's a naruto level shounen story.

The anime covered up to SS1, but skipped 1/3 of it and a few very important events like a declaration of hostility between the science and magic sides. You could start from volume 14, but I recommend that you read from the beginning if you want it to make sense.

js06, the translator for Index and Heavy Object is currently translating Zashiki-Warashi and A Simple Survey on his free time. A Simple Survey was released this July and is nearly done. Zashiki-Warashi is about halfway done. They aren't listed on Baka-Tsuki, so here are the links to those two.

I heard that it would be, but no VAs have been announced. DVD-only with a horrible localization. Accelerator says stuff like "darn" in the subs. Touma's catchphrase was somehow turned into "I'll burst your bubble." Necessarius is referred to as the "sorcerers' society." "Such Misfortune!" is now "Just my luck!" As I said before, they raped the franchise. I didn't even watch it. Other people did and prove it with screencaps. I know that I am forgetting more stuff.

But that is about the anime, which is /a/ content. This thread is for the LN mostly.

You might not want to download the PDFs yet. They are horribly outdated. Since they have been made, there has been heavy proofreading and editing as well as new scans of once poorly scanned images (now with proper typesetting), and an entire volume was re-translated. The /a/ Raildex general community (that translates it and scanlates the Railgun manga) is still working on the final version, but it might take a while. So for now, just read it straight off of Baka-Tsuki or make your own PDFs.
