How the fuck do you guys even play MMO's?

I just tried playing PSO on a private/free server. Well first off I have no fucking clue what I'm supposed to do, I've never played PSO in my life, and I'm afraid people will get mad at me for doing something stupid.

Then I feel constantly embarrassed of my choice in character design, if I create a loli, I feel ridiculous and out of place. If I create a generic gary stu, I feel ridiculous and out of place. There's no winning situation. Then when I try to log on I go into this little lobby area, and people start being nice and saying hi to me and I have no clue what to say, my anxiety just shoots through the roof and I have to quit.

Jesus christ, how the fuck do you do this?

Really? When I played PSO it felt like I was the only one around that didn't play a loli.

Also the game is instanced, just take your time figuring it out solo.

PSO is easy to play alone since it's instanced. Just run and hide in a private room and figure things out.

>> No.9999320

Do what most of us do and play solo or just with people you already know that you will somehow have to drag to play your game of choice.

It won't let me start the game unless I'm connected to the free server, maybe I didn't take my time but I didn't see any private rooms/blocks/ships or whatever.

You don't need to. Just play the missions solo.

I honestly couldn't stay in that lobby long enough to see all the options in starting missions, I only saw "join party".

>people start being nice and saying hi to me and I have no clue what to say,
You got farther than me. I solo without anyone saying a word to me until I hit max level. Then I sit in town with nothing to do and no one to talk to, just feeling depressed that I'm too scared to start a conversation or join a guild.

People NEVER approach me. They always seem like they're too busy with their own shit.

This describes my every MMO experience ever (except for that first RO server...)

>> No.10000699

You should focus less on what people think about you and more on what you think about the game itself. I play mmos because my sleeping schedule is fucked and there's nothing to do on the graveyard shift.

The only time I ever enjoyed an MMO was playing Ragnarok Online in high school, because the few friends I had also played it. If I had to go it alone or with people I didn't know it would be a problem. Nowadays my social anxiety makes it impossible anyway. The thought of trying to get on an MMO and join a party makes me nervous and scared.

>> No.10006300

Whenever /jp/ plays a new mmo I join and stalk those with the obvious /jp/sie names to see how they interact off board. I'd say at least 90% of you came from or still post on /v/.

>> No.10006310

i think you need to get into MMOs before 4chan
back when i played WoW, i maxed out my friends list, and i regularly talked to almost all of them. since quitting and spending 14 hours a day on here i haven't made any online friends at all anywhere

>> No.10006326

>>10006300
Steam group isolation and board phobia is not the way to go. This will keep happening until people decide to recruit players based on their personal character instead of what board they're from. Saying you're from 4chan attracts anyone that wants to be associated with it.

I hope you've stalked me! I don't think I've had a stalker before.

Then again I've never been a fag and used a Touhou name or anything, so you probably haven't. Very sad.

I used to play MMOs but it fucking sucks when you have no friends.

I went back to WoW for MoP and felt like a worthless sack of shit.

It's because when you're here you don't have to worry about what people think about you. You're free from other people's judgment, which makes it easy for someone with social difficulties to talk here.

>> No.10006371

>>10006365
Conversely, if you're on an MMO or a message board that requires registration, other people will know who you are and will recognize you, and remember the things that you have said, etc.

If you've ever played with /jp/, it's the complete opposite. I don't get how people obsess playing with each other on this board when they act like retards when they're together. Also, how hard is it to find a partner to play with in a mmo? It's a video game, not a marriage.
