Dear /jp/, how do you store your porn?

I have over 130 gigabytes of ordered eromanga and I think it is starting to kill my pc. Access times are slowing down all over the place and even searching through it can take up a lot of resources. Anything other than Total Commander is struggling to move around the folders.
I've been collecting shit for nearly a decade and I fear winter Comiket is going to be the killer blow. I've regularly migrated my collection to bigger and newer HDDs, so I haven't had any HDD deaths yet probably thanks to that. However, now I have a 1 terabyte disk which is supposed to last for some time capacity-wise.

The majority of my problems probably stem from the fact that I only have a few folders of HCGs compressed. There are over 280.000 little files sitting on my HDD acting as a huge erotic black hole for any process that tries to penetrate them. I regularly try to defragment them though. I've thought about building a RAID, but that would need a hugeass new PC and I obviously don't have the money and space to buy a mini server farm, run it and feed it with power from home.
The reason for how this archiving system came to be is that only the image viewer I use satisfies my fapping needs and it can't handle compressed archives.

I have seen in previous threads that many of you has collections similar in size. I'm curious about how you deal with the raw size of the stuff.

If one drive can't handle all, store 33 gigs of A-C on one, D-G on another and so on, sorted by circle or material by your preference.

I feel like I'm missing something, as this seems fairly intuitive and obvious to me.

Why do you uncompress things? You can easily use CDisplay/EX to read stuff inside rar, zip or whatever packages.

Not uncompressing my eromanga is the only thing I do, though. I also hoard all the porn I enjoy from pixiv, 4chan and similars, and I'm probably going to meet your fate eventually. I guess I could buy a new HDD solely for my porn some day in the future.

If you browse a folder with pics Windows will try to make thumbsnails of the pics while the folder window is open. This takes time and slows down the system until its done thumbnailing the folder.

Either ZIP your folders or turn off that auto thumb nailing feature. You can Google the latter.

I've junk all over my hd, but it doesn't bother me much because I use an app called "Everything" and never mess with filenames, so I can easily find anything I need at any time. Provided I know what I'm looking for, of course.

As >>10229714 mentions, use cdisplayex to read stuff. The only problem is when they stuff archives inside archives to separate event cgs from backgrounds or something. But you'll probably want to mess with those anyway as they usually have bmp files which are, since I don't really care about tiny losses, best batch coverted into jpg. When I need that, I use gimp and some plugin I forget the name of.
Sometimes I need to batch rename stuff as well, and I use xnview for that. It's a nice imageviewer, though it has (or had) a bug where you can't switch off automatic thumbnail caching due to it not saving the setting when you close the app. But you can also tag files through it and build a library of sorts. Though that's too much trouble for me. There are similar apps out there too, you should look around.

Please explain how you could get a virus from watching porn online.

I thought you had to open a file that can execute code, like an .exe or batch file, or open a normal file (like a text file) that by itself can't execute code, but can exploit the program that opens it, which does execute code. (Which is extremely rare and almost never happens.)

TLDR; I don't think getting a virus from going to any and every porn site on Earth is possible.

>> No.10229877

>>10229870
Listen here, nerd.

1. Firefox is patched every month, since people usually find at least three or four critical security flaws in that time that allow for certain website features to crash your browser and execution of arbitrary code.
2. Most websites use Flash to deliver content. Flash, similar to all other Adobe products, is known to be frequently patched because it literally contains over 9000 security flaws that allow remote code execution simply by playing a certain crafted piece of flash video.
3. Some people also install Java, for some reason or another. If your browser doesn't automatically block applets, chances are that you are vulnerable to at least three different exploits right now.

So, in summary, unless you are 100% up to date, you will be vulnerable simply by surfing the web. Hey, in fact, even if you are up to date, chances are that some people have already found a new vulnerability that isn't patched yet. And guess where those people exploit you? On dubious porn sites that are known to be visited by the dumbscum of humanity.

I always get the impression you guys make things overly complicated when it comes to preserving your stuff.

I literally just keep everything I have always in two HDs. One inside my computer and the other outside, which I update regularly. If one dies, everything is still in the other and I need only get a new one to keep the duo in order to stay safe forever. And providing you're not retarded you need only the money for the first two unless you decide to get bigger ones, because I've been doing this for years and I've NEVER had ANY die. I'm genuinely impressed people talk about HDs dying as if it's an everyday issue, and have no idea how they do it so frequently. They must walk around their rooms juggling with coke cans or something.

Did you not read >>10229926? For example, look at this: http://seclists.org/bugtraq/2012/Mar/103.. This is from March. Note the "a specially-crafted PNG image file" "when opened, could cause an application using libpng to crash or, possibly, execute arbitrary code". libpng, basically, is a library that deals with reading PNG files and converting them into the operating system's native image implementation. So, many applications do not write this code themselves, but use libpng instead. By many, I am referring to Firefox, Chrome, Opera, and others. If any of these applications open said image file, they will at one point call libpng to read the image. libpng, in turn, will crash, and execute whatever code was embedded in the image file. So, you can get infected this way, and it has happend before more than once. I'm not googling up examples for you.

You solve that problem by keeping a well-structured folder tree organized along a strict hierarchy of rules, which is reorganized on a monthly basis to ensure the integrity of your system.
