I remember Moot did the first phase of his HTML5 implementation back when canv.as was still going.

I'm guessing he looked at the figures, realized it was going to be a flop and moved back to 4chan.

Few people remember that back when canv.as was first announced, Moot said it would be unlikely he'd engage personally with the site on the same level he had before.

/ota/ has seen the most growth in an alternative english imageboard since 4chon I think. Keep in mind that's on top of the community mostly only coming from /jp/ and warosu, which are not very large communities in comparison.

>> No.12098083,25 [INTERNAL]

>>12098083,24
7chan was a /b/ refugee camp and 420chan built itself on top of a pro wrestling niche. It's not so far-fetched to make an analogy between those and /ota/, as /ota/ is catering to its own niche right now. Also as far as ``spin-offs'' are concerned, no chan can ever truly break free of the "4chan except..." stereotype. There are national chans that go as far as to voluntarily fit that mould, arguing that their sole reason for existence is anime because the first-ever chan was about anime (if you don't look at japan, of course).

Meaning right now: about 20 total posters, 15 of those dedicated

By dedicated I mean posting at least once a day. I can only see it getting any bigger at a real slug's pace or not getting any bigger at all considering the bulk of /ota/ posters comes from a declining community (/jp/) that seems content about jumping ship to twitter rather than finding another chan.

OP, I'm glad someone else realizes it. /jp/ is sort of a beta, or early representation of where the rest of 4chan is going, and we can thank moot's changes in staff and moderation for all of it.

The dwindling support of the site from the userbase here is also a sign of its lifespan coming to an end. Hell, I will never support 4chan in any way knowing someone as imbecilic as Inspector Nigwood has that kind of power over what happens on this site. And the only reason is literally cronyism.

You're only allowed to really talk about around one in every twenty anime and even most of those you have to be ignorant about in order to not be banned. Everything has to be discussed from the perspective of a perfectly normal teenager watching toonami and adult swim. And even then everyone on ADTRW is regarded as sick creeps by the rest of SA, mostly because the entire user base operates off of one simple rule: the more people, characters and things you call creepy, the better the user you are. It's all about dominating over everyone else by being "less creepy".

This is why OP's point is stupid though. You can actually discuss things like eroge on 4chan. That alone makes it nothing like SA.

I think it's more like the imageboard 'craze´´ of circa 2008-2012 has ended. By now, there's nothing new that imageboards can come up with and the idealization of anonymous discussion as something unique that progresses humanity has come to an end.

Yeah. False dichotomies are a major building block of humanity.

I still think anonymous boards can enhance a person's life and his understanding of humanity, but only if he browses them for ~1-2 years. That's about the time it takes to see all they can offer. Over the longer haul they start rotting your brain.

moot doesn't even understand what he helped create.

It's sad because he could have protected it and cared for it. He could have been somebody who changed internet culture, even real culture. Instead he caved to helping end anonymity and enforced real-world group think on the boards. Now we have moderation that enacts the collective will of users, that means a watered down populist shaping of content, instead of treating anonymous posts individually without bias.

It was that popular may be good, it may be bad, we are Anon here and we think about it ourselves without worrying over judgement. Yes, we attack one another and sometimes group together against things but we don't censor those things out of shame and appeal. Now we just remove what doesn't appear to be popular, funnily enough without any recorded want or discourse. Appearances mean more than particulars. The only reason to enact mass appeal policies like this is for revenue, it's the same thing that television studios and newspapers do.

Your post made me remember when Time realized jewt exists and they were doing interviews with him calling him and his "underground rag-tag group of associates" cultural trend-setters.

It doesn't even make any sense to try to cater to the lowest possible denominator when you consider the kind of people he associates with. He should be catering to hipster pieces of trash and assorted dickheads because that's the target audience of the people taking advantage of him. Old 4chan would laugh anamanaguchi out the door but current 4chan is too busy checking /v/b/ out to care about some dudes who know the king of trolls and master maker of memes making a thread on /mu/.

He wants to make money but he doesn't even know the right way. At least he seems to know how to not spend it, what with his epic rewards for discovering site vulnerabilities.

I spent hours meticulously cutting and glueing together pieces of card stock, usually without the faintest idea of what to make or write, until I produced something to my liking.
