Heyo all, a chance has arisen for me to go to Japan, next year. I plan to take it, since Japan is a pretty cool place and such- but I just have a few questions.

1) If you don't act like an anime loving faggot and actually learn their language will they accept you? (I'm not American, if it helps)
2) I am already sort of learning the language, I have a bunch of books from a torrent and some audio stuff. The artist for the audio stuff is only listed as "Pimsleur" I just did a google search, and they did turn up. So is this a good approach to learn the language? I've heard rosetta stone isn't as good as it might seem.

I'm not sure what to expect by posting this, I guess I'll find out in a second.

>> No.1213055

It's a troll. I can tell cause he posted Lucky Star.

>> No.1213063

It was the only picture I could think of damn it. I'm going there for educational reasons, it's not for fun. I intend to get something out of the experience, I just want to approach it properly.

DOES THIS LOOKS LIKE THE TRAVELING BOARD TO YOU FAGGGOT?

You're not going to know the language in a year.

No, he's just an idiot because he posted this question.
>1) If you don't act like an anime loving faggot and actually learn their language will they accept you? (I'm not American, if it helps)
Is it really that hard to not act like some retarded fuckup? Do you really need tips?

Also, stay away from Rosetta Stone. If you're just visiting, Pimsleur is probably all you need since you probably only care about getting around and not learning the language.

Okay sorry I guess this should of been obvious.

If you don't like Lucky Star, you must be some kind of faggot. Seriously, go back to /a/, you twats.

Yeah ... Considering some of the people I saw when I stayed briefly in Tokyo before going elsewhere on my stay in Japan. This is apparently a very difficult thing for some of the tourists, and as the more touristy types get attached to the Japanese shit it just going to be getting worse.

You go to /a/. I can tell because of your baseless Lucky Star hate.

Why are you worrying about other people?

If you saw them doing things "incorrectly/wrong" or acting like idiots, THEN DO THE OPPOSITE.

Fuck off.

>>1213107

This is the sort of thing I'd be wanting to avoid, the trip is for a year btw. I suppose it's not that hard to avoid that kind of stuff though.

Then will advice really fix anything? There's very little you can do if you're already so far out of it that you can't act normal for the two seconds you're outside.

Just acting polite, normal person, who doesn't stare at everything and everyone will get you a good long ways in most places (not just Japan). Don't express your powerlevel, they really don't care (except in some areas).

In general, if you are polite and don't bother people they will return the same to you. It should only take a week or so to figure out how things work on your daily trips and to get acclimated to following suit. Also, never be afraid to ask for advice on something if you are unsure. Its better to ask, and do it right the first time.

"You" can sometimes be used hypothetically. It's not always used directly against someone else.

Because, other people behaving like idiots will inherently make me look bad to others before I even get a chance to prove myself to not be one. I have spent far too long in other countries to not have learned this lesson yet.

Which could be summarized as "act like a normal person and ask for help when you need it." Things like this should be common sense so I don't know why you even asked it in the first place.

If you learned it already, then you should know that there's very little you can do besides behaving yourself. You can't just travel back in time and kill the other tourists.
