And yes, there are! Wintermute released an EP earlier this year (pic related) and it's just as good as Stray Light. You could also take a look at the works of producers who appear on Mikgazer.

Peppy Vocaloid songs like "Sweet Magic" and "Melt" really touch my heart. Any kind of PV that has Miku or Teto smiling at me with a sweet face is something I like, so I can see why there's so much popular merchandise that isn't very good.

Same problem here anon. Itunes gets region locked and you're forced to buy giftcards at inflated prices, there's Amazon but you still have to download a client. Worst part is that you pay money and don't even get to choose the sound quality. I remember booth.pm let you download in wav, and there's a little bit of vocaloid on bandcamp.

Holy shit this year really is the year of IA. I was really worried that with the release of ONE and all the marketing they'e been giving other artists like Garnidelia 1st Place were looking to broaden their horizons and move away from IA but they've really outdone themselves and sure as hell know how to cater to their fans. Shame Marvelous kept fucking up and delaying the game though but I can hardly complain since it is very good now that it's actually out.

I am glad that the game turned out the way it did, it's not quite as polished as pdf2nd and it feels kind of easy but it has a really nice setlist and the game part is fun.

And I'm sure the popularity boost from kagepro is part of what made it possible for the game, concert and all that new stuff to be made. However, just because there's no more kagepro it doesn't mean IA is not able to stand up on her own. She's perfectly fine as a vocaloid, has a good design and has a good number of fans, kagepro or not.

I disagree with you. As much as I like IA, I don't think this will be IA's year, in fact, I don't think she will ever have a year. She hasn't had much success out of shitty Kagepro, anything else hasn't made an impact, she doesn't have any defining points (other than said Kagepro) and has very little in terms of original music these days. With the massive decline lately and a market diluted outside of Miku's massive following I don't think we'll have any Vocaloid usurp her, unless we get a second wave.

Honestly, I think you shot yourself in the foot, I don't particularly rate Miku these days but her music encompass the whole surge Vocaloid and she has the benefit of having friends to break the monotiny. I can't see an IA show being anything but a long hard slog.

Also, I've been working on making a cover for an Idolmaster song with Miku singing, and I've hit a wall with tuning vocals. I've gotten the timing of the lyrics down and lengthened them so they don't sound so clipped without having my lyrics on a melody. What I just need to figure out is:

1) How do I adjust the pronunciations for phonemes/lyrics?

2) Which parameters do I use and how?

3) how do I set my lyrics on a melody? I just have my lyrics on one note for simplicity's sake.

4) which of the first three issues do i work out first?

1)You have to change the phenomes manually. (for example if a lyric is 'AH' but you are wanting an 'AY' sound. You have to bring up the little black box and change the lyric, change the 'V' to 'ei.')

2) This is more of a creative thing. I have my own certain style of tuning, other have theirs. Fuck around with the parameters until you find a sound you like.

3) Learn scales, chords etc. and adjust them to the songs scales and chords. Your ears can tell naturally when something sounds shit or not.

4) I'd reccomend melody in your case, then phenomes, then parameters. In order of how fundamental to a song they are.

the most important thing to know is that parameters other than pitch and volume are not going to be important. the most important thing is always going to be having the right phoneme, at the right pitch.

If you are doing a cover you can put the original song into vocalistener (assuming you have karaoke version) and it will give you the pitch although you will need to make manual adjustment (look up a tutorial). that will take you 90% of the way there.

LOL, the 360p niconico version is higher quality than the DVD. The DVD is absolutely butchered. It's missing frames. Someone telecined it, improperly inverse telecined it, and then it was telecined again for the DVD.
I feel sorry for anyone who paid for it. The other PV on the DVD (Children Record) is also higher quality on niconico. Though at least that one's not butchered, it's just a bit cropped and fuzzier.

I can't really give advice unless you describe your problem. There are lots of reasons GUMI could be sounding off. Clashing chords, lack of a healthy mix ethic, lack of experience etc. There is no simple solution to becoming 'good' at Vocaloid. If I could tell a beginner, how to get on that path though, it would be basic shit like learning chords and generally study music theory then dedication like any other art.

I'm aware of the control parameters, but not aware of exactly how to use them the right way.
I know there's various other tips and tricks (regarding precise pronunciation and such) but I just have no idea where to start the fine-tuning.

Do I add pitch bend to certain words? How do I know which ones to add it to?

I can't really expect anyone to answer these questions, but is there ANY sort of resource available on learning the software itself aside from the user manual?

See that is more subjective and what bugs me about the general Vocaloid fandom. There is no right way to tune, it's not a science, it is all subjective and ironically most people that harp about it have the worst, driest Vocals because their mix is shit. My suggestion is take a step back, listen to some great Vocalists and take queues from them, listen to the timing of their Vibratoes and Legatoes then apply them to your own music. Your ears will tell you what sounds shit.

My honest advice to you is chill out, Vocaloiding is fun and don't expect to become a master in no time. It has taken me two years of work to get good and i'm still trying new shit. Experiment with the parameters and the options, figuring it out yourself is more effective and more satisfying.

It's not really much to do with niches, it was a trend at surface level, Miku fever so to speak, people get bored of them then move on. Also Vocaloiding is very time consuming, it is sad to work for ages getting to a stage just to get nowhere as most the audience has left. Scratch notes are completely fine when set to analog sticks. I like them even. They were shit in f though when touch screen was the only way to hit them. Only thing I don't like is they are used to fill in the non vocal instrumental parts, and makes songs too easy when they are just star spam. Some songs were butchered in the transition from psp to vita and were made too easy.

I want to see them add more same time notes, like hitting other notes during holds like Mirai series does, or more button combinations like Arcade.

normally, but people can ask others to do the voice. even if you think your voice isn't suited for utau you can just record a cv bank cause it can take less than an hour or so and the oto isnt too hard

I don't think there's an official release yet, but IIRC it's a big possibility for this holiday season/sometime next year. They've been showing it off more lately.

That was my plan anyway, but I still feel more comfortable playing in a language I know. I'm definitely importing it - no way am I waiting 8 months for it.

I don't have a PS4 yet, so my VR choices are limited to PC ones at the moment. That said, I think it looks pretty good and a lot of the demos we've had are already leaning towards things with digital qts. And it's got Idolm@ster and Vocaloid already it seems, which are big pluses.

Price will definitely matter though

Someone uploaded Desktop cinderella to mikudb. Really fucking good album. Usually I like to listen to music while doing something else, but I had to stop because I loved some of the songs so much. The songs are all in the same genre/style, hachi doesn't depart much, but to be honest I wouldn't want him to, it's really good as is.

Wow, it's looking very nice indeed! I love the song choices for Rin & Len, much, much better than whatever they had in the past editions (except for Tokyo Teddy Bear). I wish they'd kept Leia for Luka, though, but JBF is nice I guess and Ai Dee is going to be in there so it's ok. There are a lot of recycled Miku songs on there, though there are a couple of good additions too. I'm looking forward to seeing some concert footage when it comes out.
