Depends on what exactly you're looking for. I know dollfieproject.com has some guns, for example, and Dollmore's good for all kinds of random bits and bobs. Scale-model foods and other things just seem to pop up anywhere, and furniture seems to be increasingly popular on Etsy. And like you said, the cameras and umbrellas and whatnot are mass-market goods that can be found cheapest through wholesalers like ebay and aliexpress- oh! and all those branded goods come from those 'mini brand surprise' things that have come out recently. They're usually too small for most DDs though.

I've been trying to focus on props recently so I've been on the same search. A lot of people make their own, but I'm not good enough to do things like that, I don't think.

Very much this. There's actually a lady in LA who goes to each LA Dollpa and buys ALL of the one off auctions for charity. There are a lot of very wealthy people who just do that kind of thing.

They're so versatile in what they can wear, and have a much bigger cross section of other doll brand clothes that will fit them well. I do a mix of making, repurposing, and buying all of my props. For the guns, I know a lot of those are either 3D printed or there are some sellers on Y!JA, but be prepared to pay a lot. A cheaper alternative if you're in the US is GoatGuns, but be warned, the guns there are made of metal and can be hard to pose dolls around/get them to hold.

Are there any special tricks on how to insert eyes with putty other than just somehow trying to make it stick like a caveman?
And does anyone know a good device to make eyes movable other than the one on yahoo? (I bought it, but couldn't insert it properly because my head had a mouth mod and then another part broke).

That's the great thing about DDS, they're right in a sweet spot where anything labeled SD13, DD, SmD S,M or even some other resin dolls will fit them well. You may have to do a little adjusting here and there with a clip or something when they're baggy, but I've never had a problem with things being too tight. I posted this picture last thread, but I'm posting it again to illustrate the dress on the red head is wearing a custom sewn dress designed for a Smartdoll and the blonde is wearing one listed for DD (L). Both fit perfectly well.
The only problem area with them is pants, but even then, it's just making a cuff, or if you can sew just a quick hem.

That's the major difference between them, but a lot of the other measurements are slightly off as well. The other main points being the DDS hips are larger, and the trunk length (shoulder to crotch) is shorter. Those are the two measurements that make it easier for things listed for Smartdoll to fit as they have slightly larger hips than the DDS and their trunk lengths are about the same, while the DD has a longer trunk and more narrow hips. A lot of other resin dolls also have bigger hips (because of the ball joint) and similar trunks.
