if i have a regular DD doll(don't know if it has a special name, DD base body) does it take regular or large hands? my poor doll has her arms behind its back because she has had no hands since i build her.

How is Azone compared to Volks when it comes to availiability of parts?
The high entry price is one thing, but the constant drag of second-hand markets and lotteries is what's keeping me away from dollfies.

Azone doesn't ship internationally direct, so you'll have to go through a third party shop/proxy to get things from them. That said, they use Obitsu bodies, and spare parts for them are non-existent and they also don't ship internationally direct.
Unless you're aiming for a particular licensed doll, there's no need to deal with second-hand or lotteries with Volks. I custom made all of my dolls, one with a base body and two with "option parts" and never had to do a lottery and only bought outfits second hand via Mandarake.

>> No.33122021

>>33121823
So basically when it comes to the body, Azone's options are either complete dolls or somehow getting Obitsu parts, which have even more limited availiability than Volks, did I get that right?
I was getting this impression from Volks since from what I'm reading in this thread even getting hands, which should probably be the easiest custom part, can be tricky.

>> No.33122619

>>33122021
In terms of finding spare parts, Volks is by far the easiest. Smart Dolls might be the next easiest, with the caveat that everything is stupidly overpriced and you can't just buy the parts directly from the store (or blank heads or bodies, either.) Obitsu parts are a nightmare to track down, and it's only getting worse since they discontinued basically everything in their 1/3 scale.

>> No.33124934

>>33122021
Pretty much, yes. Usually the parts aren't that hard to come by, the last year has made it tricky when normally it's a standard stock and restock thing with Volks. If you're in the US you can use both Volks stores to make it easier too. The US store and the International store maintain separate inventories, and while the shipping from Japan may be more right now, it usually gets mostly offset from the lack of tax and lower starting price.
Volks, for all their other problems, is the most user friendly of the vinyl doll companies. Like the other anon said, obitsu is a nightmare and SmD are easy for boobs and hands, but if you need anything else you have to go through support, not the site, and they are shitty if you bought second hand.

How long are Volks Japan's shipping times?
I heard that the USA store is hilariously slow with shipping since they take literal months to ship stuff.

You'll be fine. They're incredibly sturdy. My first doll is an Obitsu, it's been 5 years since then and the only part that ever broke was the wrist. For additional hands, depending on what size doll you can either get different ones from places like Parabox. If you don't mind minor skin tone mismatch though, MDD or DD hands fit them as well, but may need a little poster tac to help keep them in place. I use MDD hands on my 40cm Obitsu dolls this way.

>>33171740
Yeah, more or less, most of the dolls here have removeable wigs you can take off, cut, style, and mess with however you like. Volks (the company who makes most of the dolls seen in these threads) even sells shampoo and other supplies for doll hair. If you're planning to use a curling iron or anything, look for HRF wigs -- heat resistant fiber can take the abuse, but non-HRF fiber will melt or burn.

(This goes for artificial hair. Other materials like mohair, angora, and the rest are a whole 'nother ballgame.)

You can also swap out their eyes and other parts as you desire, at least to a point (busts, hands, and whatnot are fairly easy to find,) along with their outfits and everything that comes with that. Most of the ones here have custom-painted/modded heads, and those generally come from Yahoo Japan Auctions, though there are some people selling them in the west as well through Etsy and Instagram. (A good example would be ShiNeS Workshop.)

Most of the ones here are between 40cm-60cm in height, but there are smaller ones easily available through companies like Obitsu (Parabox in the west,) and even larger ones for people willing to shell out for a 150cm anime doll. (There's also the Smart Doll brand, and Azone's line of larger dolls to consider -- there's something for everyone, and if you prefer more realistic dolls there's the entire resin market to consider -- though it's rife with bootlegs, so a lot more research will go into that.)

I personally got into this hobby with Azone Pure Neemo dolls, which have rooted hair (it doesn't come off) and painted-on eyes, because it was all I could afford at the time. They're very fun and not too big of an investment of time or space, and since they're roughly the size of more popular western dolls, there are a lot of prop and outfit options. (Blythe clothes, sans the hats for obvious reasons, will fit fine, and most Barbie accessories will work for props.) Since then I have... a lot more dolls, and even if they are expensive, I've had a lot of fun with them. But a thread like this is biased in their favor, so take that with a grain of salt!

Contentious question- the dolls themselves are alright. There's nothing immediately wrong with them. Some people don't like their face sculpts, and there are better posing options (rip Otibsu 60 bodies,) but for what they are, they're not bad. I have several, and I particularly like that they have a slot in the back that you can hook a stand they come with into, because it makes posing them easier without having to haul around one of the big stands from Alice's Collections.

The reason that many people don't like to get Smart Dolls -- or at least, don't like to buy them directly -- is that the company owner is the Amy's Baking Company equivalent of the doll world. In a word, volatile. Prone to throwing social media tantrums, banning people from his store he doesn't like, and discontinuing/releasing things without any warning. (I literally run a bot solely to notify me of any changes to webpages on his storefront for this exact reason, it is literally that bad.)

So the dolls are good, in my opinion, be prepared to kiss some ass so the owner doesn't ban you from his store.

That said, they were not sold as accessories for dolls but they had a similiar finish to the bike seen in this thread. I don't remember the brand, sorry.

I did see some bicycles made for 1/12 scale though. And a whole lot of all kind of other accessories. I'm not sure what scale BJDs are popular ones but there were dedicated doll sections too. If budget affords it Akihabara is a gold mine for niche shit.

There are and I'm using them, but there are still problems. In a previous batch I had cases where images with clearly visible differences (eg glasses on / off) were as high as 99% similarity, and then of course the lower the similarity gets the more likely it's a different image altogether, yet the same image at the same resolution with no apparent visual differences would still happen at similarity as low as 72%. So using a program to automatically clear out dupes at anything less than 100% similarity is likely to also remove images that aren't dupes. This leaves me little choice but to look over things manually.

I don't remember who makes them offhand, but there are some sellers who do plastic molded hair for dolls, like you would find on figures. It's an option as well if you decide dealing with styling is too much of a pain.

>>33175164
Posing leaves a lot to be desired, and vinyl is better than 'cortex' for sure. It's better than some of my ancient DD2 bodies, but then again, so is almost everything else. If I recall, though, isn't there someone who sells aftermarket parts for Smart Dolls that enhances their range of posing? I don't remember who it is, but I swear I've seen and heard of them before, and I'd gladly shell out to test that claim. IMO, the biggest draw of SmD is the skintone options -- until Volks decides to regularly release the DD Icons and bring their Tan out of Japan, or until someone devises a more reliable way of dyeing dolls, Danny's the only real option on that front- that, and male bodies. As limited as his are, it's still better than Volks' keeping theirs locked at Doll Point and Obitsu outright discontinuing everything above 1/4.

Wow anon, you really can't be blamed for things like that, my father is elderly and dealing with memory issues after a stroke, and I can relate to how frustrating it must be to misplace even things you care about without meaning to do so. I think one of the benefits of the dolls we collect here are that they're pretty large, around 60cm/24in tall for DDs and 40cm for MDDs. They're harder to lose that way, and it might also help if you keep her on your PC desk or nearby you so she doesn't wind up lost -- and don't be too hard on yourself if things do happen; even before his stroke my father still loses his wallet at least once a year. We almost always find it before we have to cancel all his cards, though -- I think you can manage it. It might help to write notes for yourself, as physically writing things down helps to encode them into our memory. You could also get a recording app on your phone and save audio notes, if that's easier for you -- I don't know the specifics of your situation, but you deserve to have nice things in spite of whatever problems you have.

I honestly relate to forgetting people I don't interact with often- do you have access to healthcare in your area? Depending on the cause, it's possible there are things that can be done to help with your issues, whether they're medical (adhd can fuck with memory) or simply therapy to teach coping skills. No judgment if that's not your bag, but I always suggest it if it's an option, because I personally have benefitted from that form of help. Either way, be kind to yourself -- you just live here, it's not your fault your brain is like a shitty roommate.

As someone who's living full time with an elderly, immunocompromised person as their caretaker, and who's similarly turned into a quarantined hikkikomori, you would be safe at a doctor's visit as long as you followed the usual procedures around hand-washing and whatnot, but also look into tele-heath; something like this, you can at least get the preliminary exam done over video call. Testing and other procedures are done in person (for obvious reasons,) but it's a good first step, I think. For what it's worth, we're both just internet randoms, but I hope the best for you anon. Dollfie Dream, Dollfie Dream Sister, Dollfie Dream Pretty, Mini Dollfie Dream. Smaller than MDDs are dolls like Azone Pure Neemo, which are a little smaller than a Barbie, and some people collect even smaller dolls! >> No.33253144

Not normally, they're the same scale, but need 3rd party adapters or modification to attach. The SDs have strung together bodies with no internal frame, and the opening for the connection, which is usually an S hook holding the internal string taught, is quite different from the DD heads that are fitted onto a post of the internal frame.

Anyone here happens to have azone iris collect girl with G bust and their furisode kimono? I just can't seem to fit the obi on her. There is this additional fold of sort on the kimono around the waist which in the end adds like 4 layers of fabric so it's impossible to lock the hooks on the obi in. Not really sure what's it for since i can't really see it on any real kimonos. Some tips from someone who owns it would be appreciated.

Is there a consensus on who has the best Miku wig? Cotindoll? Himekazura? I have one of the ones from her first release and it's becoming a pain in my ass to maintain. Once the hair starts coming out it's like it's impossible to get it in order again. I'm willing to shell out for an alternative.

I have, along with wig mist and other things. My problem is with the ponytails themselves. The only way to get the hair to look neat if it shifts out of the ties (as in, around the part in the hair) is to take it down and redo it, and doing that is a pain. Just trying to slide it back into place makes a weird... bump.

1/3 (SD, DD, SmD, etc) and 1/4 (MDD, MSD, DDP, Azone... kind of) are both very popular and have a lot of options for clothing and props. MDD are probably the most popular anime dolls, and there are a gorillion different clothes and accessories in that scale. 11" I think? They're not that big, but I think they're a very fun size, and you get ALL the props because while most Barbie clothes are a poor fit, a ton of the props will work just fine. Is there a consensus on the best dye brand/type to use on vinyl? I've heard both i-dye poly and various kinds of rit powders.

I had this bookmarked from before, I haven't tried that combo myself yet (I have a blank DDH-09 that I haven't gotten a faceup for yet) but it looks like it should work.

Honestly anon, just go for it. In the before times I used to take mine everywhere with me, and it was a lot of fun to have them around. People generally don't give a shit, unless they're old ladies, at which point they will come over and talk to you about dolls for a while. I'm hoping that the time will come one day where I can go back to my bullshit, too. Not being able to go anywhere with them has put a dent in my enthusiasm over the last year, but the spark is coming back now, I think. If you want to do something, why not give it a try?

Rendds went into a lot of detail with the process she went through in learning to sculpt her first doll, River, and even repairing him and his mold after a bad (legitimate) casting company left him with damage. It's a good place to start, maybe, but I'm sure there are guides and things as well out there.

NEW THREAD
(early because I'm going out today, apologies.)

>> No.33445237 [DELETED]

Dear GOD/GODS and/or anyone else who can HELP ME (e.g. MEMBERS OF SUPER-INTELLIGENT ALIEN CIVILIZATIONS):

The next time I wake up, please change my physical form to that of FINN MCMILLAN of SOUTH NEW BRIGHTON at 8 YEARS OLD and keep it that way FOREVER.

I am so sick of this chubby Asian man body!

Thank you!
