I'll start off with my personal wild goose chase. A while back I came across this crop of a Anime Tenchou x Touhou magazine spread from weibo (source https://m.weibo.cn/detail/3364142144584795)) that I've never seen before. I shortly found an article showing the full but extremely compressed version of the spread; though the article itself has been recently removed (https://webnewtype.com/news/article/2301/)) an archive of it is still around (http://blog.livedoor.jp/mnm002-magica/archives/51916029.html).). The spread is apparently from '娘TYPE vol.15' but my googlefu and other web-searching tactics have yielded no results. Can someone else have a crack at this?

One of the things that I will never understand about the Japanese is how OK they are with things being ethereal and how archiving isn't considered a big deal. I get that they are super against piracy over there culturally, and I get with how small their houses are they're used to not hoarding stuff, but man, it's sad to think of how many things are lost because the artists don't want to share digital copies, or people with them refuse to upload them.

If I'm correct I believe Ufotable did not ask ZUN for explicit permission to use his characters for the OVA. I also think ZUN might've not wanted people to get the wrong idea and consider it 'official' since Ufotable is a recognized animation studio, I assume that he was alot less lenient back then.

The original 2 diskette build of HRtP that ZUN showed at his college's developer expo in 1995. People who played it reported suffering from side effects, including insomnia, hallucinations, night terrors and paranoia. ZUN destroyed almost every copy, cut all of the nightmare-inducing content and released the 1 diskette ver 1.10 we all know a year later.
ZUN has one copy he keeps under lock and key but implied on twitter that there must be another in the wild.

Taking the opportunity to share a lost obscure Doujin animation DVD released by the author(s) of this ( https://www.nicovideo.jp/watch/sm6308891 ). This was released during some Reitaisai in 2009:
https://mega.nz/file/icJiXTbZ#vZ1DpXr6N6otuxj1WKFetereXU-06eSI3eIk8TcRK6o

This is the actual product (out of print, obviously): http://shop.comiczin.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=1234

This looks very amateurish, obscure indie with its plain white slim amaray case and white totally empty DVD-R inside. Even the cover isn't scaled properly to match the box size.
It contains a soundless original animation and the PV in question in much better quality.
For the curious, the author has a Twitter ( https://twitter.com/shokkin ), a Pixiv ( https://www.pixiv.net/users/22875 ) and he's still alive. This was the circle's blog: http://web.archive.org/web/20181117173511/http://sky.geocities.jp/skyloveless79/
These are among the earliest animation efforts around Touhou Project (there's even earlier than that).

I'm also looking for a piece of animation that was released by みねみねお ( https://twitter.com/minemineo1 ) during winter Reitaisai in 2018 or 2019 (I can't remember) called "そんな、貴方が". This hasn't seen another release outside of this event, and I was too late for requesting it to a human proxy. If someone else has heard of its existence or happens to have bought a copy, please let me know.

If interested, I can also share content by MMDers or animators who melted down in the past and thus nuked everything.

Here we go:

染井: Author an obscure hand-drawn named 東方八神録. This the only info remaining: http://www.nicochart.jp/user/20500310 (proxy or VPN required to view). Probably deleted everything in 2014 due to poor performance (the series was struggling to get views). He at some point experimented in 3D animation, with somewhat not so bad results. This is what is shared below (other episodes of its hand-drawn are lost forever I presume):
https://mega.nz/file/mJpzXKjB#SYCdlSxbUXzCrCocHI8Oje7FKXLnkHYZlVXwvWlHHow

シエテ ( https://www.nicovideo.jp/user/4992567 ): Now this one is still alive and has been mainly producing Kancolle-based picture-card shows for quite a while now (some might hold him responsible of the decrease in quality of MMD dramas and over-spreading the picture-card show genre, but I'll let you judge by yourself). But what many may not know is that he actually tried full animation in his earlier works. This is one of them:
https://mega.nz/file/PdYHEAqa#kI-iDXoEClqnGPcZ8aIuLGIFSvo1Szua_4cJAs_SHiE

しだれ ( https://www.nicolog.jp/user/49294495 ): Ah, that one... Prime illustrations of how weird artists can be. Blocked me on Twitter because I dared mention his name (using @), then ended up nuking absolutely everything he did a year later. His content was nice, as far as I remember, no performance issues. Just your regular mental breakdown/meltdown as only those kind of content creators are capable of. This is all I've got from him (including a nice MMD drama with based around Alice, which even a sequel was planned), all the rest is lost:
https://mega.nz/folder/3AYBDAoS#3vrW08s0ngwMbJwvoNNS4A

(凍結中) ( https://www.nicovideo.jp/user/7194249 ): This one was actually kind enough to warn that he was to perform a mass deletion at a certain date. This allowed me to grab everything I could from his old ACE COMBAT series, and this is was is shared below. His most recent videos are still up however:
https://mega.nz/folder/3IoCwCwR#AC9X5B60OfmUoyLAS2CDxg

鉛具筆文 ( https://www.nicovideo.jp/user/16048200 ): This one is also still alive ( https://twitter.com/ennpitu21 ). Was nice enough to warn that he will cease any MMD activity on January 2021, and let his Twitter content still up for a few weeks before nuking almost every R-15 production. His "regular" productions are still up. This is was how his Nico account looked like: https://www.nicolog.jp/user/16048200.. I think the trigger was YouTube deleting his account because of sexual content. Not so much a big loss as the guy was clearly a lolicon obsessed with pants videos. I'm posting only for curiosity:
https://mega.nz/folder/vYAjXAga#wDVCp3OAcMAh__l6VyNz4g

メカ豆腐1丁 ( https://www.nicolog.jp/user/16707951 ) : That one was painful, as he was one of my favourite MMDers. But he also crossed some pretty long periods of hiatus where he didn't have any clear idea of what he wanted to do next. He attempted 3D modelling at some point with very promising results. He also attempted a comeback in early January 2021, then the inevitable meltdown occurred where he blanked out all of his data, including his alias. He was notably known for his entry for the 18th MMD cup if I remember correctly (but I didn't save the video, so if anyone has it, please let me know). This is everything I've got from him, including his attempt at modelling with a nice danmaku action video with Remilia:
https://mega.nz/folder/ecJDCYQT#pVAF9M1-YMXejmizmEvOxA

雪原-: Hold on, we have a champion here. This one isn't actually Japanese, but Chinese. Apparently a big fan of deleting past works whenever his mood changes. Made 3 nice productions some time last year, only to delete them a year later. Then came back with a megavideo with many of his earlier works and on of the videos that is shared below:
https://mega.nz/folder/nYZTHCpA#WGy1JICdGUlDaKbiwsUAHw

Xero: The first westerner of the series. I have no idea of what pushed to nuke everything (including Deviantart accounts and whatnot). His productions were rather obscure and nothing special in appearance, but had that particularity of attempting original stories rather than the over-ubiquitous gags, memes and reproduction videos westerners are usually big fan of. So I'm still sharing for curiosity. If he ever came across here (yes, I can dream), it would be nice if he could tell us more of what happened:
https://mega.nz/folder/GBID0I4T#AVXoPRYRSoK6FUaQGoUl-g

I don't think I have more than that. If some of you have more (or may have what I'm missing), you can go ahead. By the way, and for those who will come across here via warosu later and were actually looking for it, this is the name of the animation I shared a few posts above: わりと動く同人誌 by circle 紅葉ブラシ同好会
And they apparently made 2 more of them!! Time for hunt now ( https://shop.comiczin.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=4920 and https://shop.comiczin.jp/products/detail.php?product_id=8815 )

However, I looked again today, and it looks like they've made their way into the TLMC sometime in the intervening period, so I suppose my quest is finally over, about nine years after I stopped looking.

Not only that but registering there requires answering a long quiz and being able to comment and upload requires a scan of your ID card! Ah yes, and being a Big Member (in order to access 60fps and max quality) exclusively requires having an Alipay account or some other proprietary foreigner-unfriendly paying account. No Paypal, no credit cards. Chinese content i something that has to be earned. To give an order of comparison, you only need a free VPN in order to be able to browse melonbooks.com, and it doesn't even restrict you with credit card options.

IIRC, the Rin Satsuki that we know is actually an amalgam of two scrapped 2hus. One would've been the third playable character, which is where the design comes from, while the name comes from a scrapped boss, who would've been a Kirin.

No?
https://tcrf.net/Touhou_Koumakyou:_the_Embodiment_of_Scarlet_Devil
Her name is listed in the executable together with Reimu's and Marisa's, she was meant to be playable.

You seem to confuse the boss thing with the unused boss sprites also in the page, though those are highly likely just early Rumia sprites.

I do on a regular basis, personally. When you have media center PCs running Kodi, you can't imagine doing otherwise anyway, obvious archiving reasons put aside.

I have been witnessing artist meltdown for almost 2 decades now, and my tolerance towards this habit has been steadily decreasing with age. Hence my posts sharing stuff here. There's so much distance and perception gap between creators and viewers that this issue cannot be summed up with one or two overgeneralization about either group. That's what my last discussion with a Westerner deleting all his Touhou stuff reveals and confirms, his reason wasn't even related to his audience, but the bad experience he had with communities he was into and how he was being dumped on instead of being helped, apparently. My personal interpretation is he might have had too much confidence in his stuff and inappropriate expectations. He also said he hardly had any support (TIL apparently constructive criticism and nice words aren't enough as "support").

I love derelict circle websites that were build on now old platforms. So many ones that are too obscure to find and which haven't had an update in years or whose host sites have ceased to exist. It makes you wonder what the people behind those circles are doing now after those circled ceased to produce new works, did they just move on to other circles or did they stop entirely, did some of them stop because they died and do they feel nostalgia and have good memories from those times? Truly an end of an era in a way, makes you feel nostalgic browsing sites like these even if you weren't part of their circles.

Another lost animation media to share. Again, everybody remembers MUD SPIKE's (or ImpuslseJP's) dogfight animation titled SONIC SPARK! ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mSnq5YMJ5qE )

But I bet very people actually noticed it got a physical release on DVD somewhere in 2012 and also a digital one that was available on melonbooks.com. This release contains not only a crystal-clear 720p HD version of that video (compared to the crippled 360p versions on both Nico and YouTube) but also a title-less version and some other goodies (a test cuts collection, MMD models, and there's also an HTML intro)!

This is the digital release that I'm sharing here, as it was deleted (no idea when) and is no longer available for purchase (but you can still download all your past purchases on melonooks.com, regardless if they're still for sale or not):

Sharing some MMD models now. I noticed Lucille blanked out both his website and related Onedrive accounts (some time in late 2020), but not his Nico 3D page yet.

So here's a mirror of his Marisas:
- from his defunct website: https://mega.nz/file/CMpgVY4I#oO9Z5hHK1dt2b7aW6wT4JHbDPiVwIwtEqi6vlyiJgBc
- from his Nico 3D page (in case this one vanishes one day, too): https://mega.nz/file/iY4iQAbA#4emgHftMyAhEI7ChJhpaKUs1K4MYylYiyscsKtfJA6Y

I've also got his Patchoulis:
- His 2009 one: https://mega.nz/file/vVASmRzT#e_OIlm2Mb35_QPP1u4ERHFdpH6U1cseNokhRAh0MNbM
- His 2011+2015 (coming from melonbooks.com, you can still buy his Patchouli mega pack from there, containing full sources alongside his MMD models): https://mega.nz/file/LNZQSThZ#s2NVXjB7Md0ZjqdyP38b6ygdc7O1c60xiMbA-Wo22Fo

Speaking of lost MMD models, I'm looking for those models:
- Lucille's 2009 Meiling (I think this one is completely lost outside of a Gary's mod MMD model port collection)
- けんさく's Remilia, as it was available only for a very limited period of time (a mere few months), it can be seen on this page: https://ch.nicovideo.jp/kensaku_i
- passwords for extracting RAR files embedded into RARs on J・クレイ's models. Yes, he does put password-protected RAR-files inside a RAR file you already obtained by typing another password first on the Bowlroll page itself. The first Bowlroll password can easily be found and is available, but not the second ones (no idea if they're different) that he puts on the embedded RARs to my knowledge. I might not have looked deep enough but if someone has a clue of where to find those second RAR passwords (for this model for example: https://bowlroll.net/file/171280 ), please let me know.

However, as I was hardly lurking on image boards until a few years ago, I'm totally oblivious to what it became afterwards. What happened to it when /jp was created? Did everyone go to /jp instead and deserted that place? Was there any kind of link between 4chan (pre-/jp era, /a board and possibly others) and Pooshlmer? Or was it simply progressively being abandoned to the point it became a ghost place, before disappearing completely? Maybe some of us can tell more here, or there are already some resources on the internet that I didn't come across yet.

That's why archiving is so important. Supporting original creators is even more essential but what happens if you can't reach them anymore, or if their content is long out of print and gone, or has been deliberately wiped out? That's why keeping things in a corner just in case can be useful, as it has been here. And as it will be for what I'm posting below.

And this is about Kyoto Fantasy Troupe's animated series. For the reminder, you can buy their episodes on DLsite here for those who are willing to support them: https://www.dlsite.com/home/circle/profile/=/maker_id/RG46413.html

However, there are at least 2 releases that the circle stopped selling. The first teaser or opening for episode 1 and the voiceless version of episode 1. The latter is linked below:
https://mega.nz/file/eJ4EQYzI#oo7_Z6NTW5GBZ_KFyxdGFqeABZsAVs7xcu2Rb3EYBTk

Contains versions with and without Japanese hard subs.

Nothing special at first sight as this version can still be found on YouTube (for how long?), as well as the original opening.
However, this particular release was the window that opened to the the unseen and unprecedented world of Kyoto Fantasy Troupe for me. That's why it's special for me. It did its job even without voices (it did feel a little weird at times but surprisingly nothing too out of place). The later voiced version (which I ended up buying digitally much later) didn't struck me as much for some reason, despite the prestigious cast. So some of you might feel the same trying out this one instead, who knows. Note that it can still be found for sale on Akiba Hobby (new old stock, but for how long?) as of this writing for the curious. It also sometimes pops out on Suruga-Ya and YJA.

Do you mean Touhou Project Side Story 〜 星の記憶 by SOUND HOLIC? If so, this is nothing less than the earliest long animated effort known in existence (released for C73 in December 2007 apparently). It still be watched translated here, among others: https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL4cbC2h2cUuuT8s-9V1GTQRiaGJflLHq1

Because of the its weak-looking and uninspiring animation, it got quickly overshadowed by later efforts to the point newer fans totally ignore its existence now.

That would be interesting to trace the original media back. It looks like it can still be easily found on YJA even today for not too much, 13 years after its initial release. I can't believe there are still so many of those discs in circulation.

Yay, I got them.

As suspected they're all OPs or PVs, 2 per disc. And as you can tell by the attached picture, they still look very amateurish with their white slim Amaray case and their misadjusted cover. Both disc label still are just solid white, just like the first one. More pictures below.

わりと動く同人誌2 features one of the OPs that was on わりと動く同人誌 (called 風神録にせOP, the one with Nitori), but in finished form. Then another one with Reisen, called 月世界戦士. Here it is:
https://mega.nz/file/HAJXCazL#OCqH68ZT9kY4BesWwqIm0Hd58pZz47oGw4XWV2u27ak

わりと動く同人誌3 features the 来るべくして来た世界 PV in short and full length, then some random sketch animation footage:
https://mega.nz/file/vNY3kQjS#4w50q66ckC7kgju__tCAvIop2rFRmXAs5EqBT_8XRZs

Those are probably one of the most obscure pieces of Touhou doujin animation that ever exist. They might have released the short or full PVs on Niconico but I can't remember.
Also, fun fact, both discs also contain their OpenDVD DVD projects, including original bitmaps used to create menus. I have no idea if this was intentional or pure amateurism.

Lucky to have found this thread. I was going through one of my old flash drives when it turned out that one was corrupted beyond repair (so much so that my PC was asking me to format it). I tried to have a look inside with data recovery programs and I found out there were inside some old remix works from Touhou fancircles which are deemed unrecoverable.
