I have to vent guys I feel like a fucking loser.
Have n2 and have been in Japan 5 years and still cant get a job outside of teaching English. I tried 2 recruiting interviews and made it to the final both times only to fail at the business Japanese roleplay where I just could not understand what she was asking and even if I did I just blanked out on answering.

I can talk to girls, had plenty of girlfriends, can text and have general convo with people no problem, but group settings and using Japanese in work I'm just a fucking failure and it really makes me feel like a loser. Honestly have no idea what kind of job I can do because I'm so talentless and clearly suck shit at Japanese. No matter how many compliments my friends or girlfriends have told me none of it matters if I cant leave the fucking teaching English circle. I don't know what to do. No idea what job I can do and if my Japanese will ever be good enough. Sorry for the vent its my second or third time on 4chan.

stop doing that immediately. while many kanji are words by themselves, many are also not. aside from verbs, adjectives, and to an extent adverbs, that often have 1 kanji serving as the stem of the word and then some kana attached to that, the vast majority of the japanese words consist kanji pairs (2 kanji). i believe it's like over 60% or maybe even 70% of the entire vocabulary. guess what: you want to learn words! words you can say, hear, read and write. kanji without actual words is pretty meaningless. learn actual nouns, verbs, adjectives, adverbs etc. not isolated kanji.

pic related can give you an idea of what 'thorough' studying of kanji might look like for a beginner (nvm all the numbers. that's just unnecessary noise. you only care about the words - their readings and meanings). many people reject this method of studying kanji this way and will tell you to just learn individual words as you come across them. i won't comment on that aspect. just wanted to illustrate that you need to learn actual words - just like with any other language btw. the kanji just by themselves are relatively useless. for some reason this seems to be hard to wrap your head around for many starting out.

do you have a reading disability or something? that's quite literally what i wrote. taciturn posts like yours are hard to respond to in earnest bc they're so ambiguous. i'm not sure what your interpretation of "kanji in isolation" really is. do you mean studying without any context in the form a story? the main problem with that is that it doesn't become sufficiently clear how (or even if) certain words are being used. it is a method that will almost certainly result in one sounding unnatural by misusing words or using uncommon ones. it's always best to learn from immersion.

It means "I finally met someone I want to marry", but I don't understand why is the 会う in potential form here. Wouldn't that make it "I finally can meet someone I want to marry"?
I don't understand why the potential form is in the past tense either. Doesn't that defeat the whole point of potential form? Why is the "会う" here even potential if it's already happened?
