We tried looking for people who had visions of the place. Not dreams, visions.
That worked, to an extent. Most of the people who said had visions of the place were frauds, and the few who did couldn't tell us specifics. We had to use them.

We recorded their brainwaves when they had visions of the place. Then we amplified the power. This is very painful for the subjects, but they accepted the risks.

The experiment failed, though. The resulting portal isn't big enough to send a human through, let alone a Predator, as was the original plan.

I don't worry much, seems like it's harder not to become youkai upon death. After I'm sufficiently immortal I'll try for a portal.

The usual luck-bringing zashikiwarashi are almost always young kids and probably stem from the practice of hiding away bastard children (if any kid the family refuses to acknowledge is seen, he was clearly the house's zashikiwarashi!) but spirits of this sort (which are similar house or place-bound haunts) can be of any age and I've seen them called "zashikiwarashi" too.
