Dubstep comes from Jamaican dub music, it's a recent genre of electronic music. It use to be pretty undergound, but the mainstream is starting to catch on.

There are two type of dubstep, in my opinion. The ones who exaggerated the mid-range bassline, and try to make "club" music. And the ones who keep true to the the experimental dubstep sound.

Here are two examples:

New age:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VqNEal3SQZM

Good ol' dubstep:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IlEkvbRmfrA

This type of music might not be for everyone. It's not really "dancing" music, it's more of nod-your-head music. Stuff you listen to in a subway, on your way home, on a dark night.

This is House, which sounds quite different from Dubstep. For anyone who wants an excellent Dubstep track, with heavy bass but not overly distorted (like the WUB WUB brostep crap) listen to this.

There is actually a variant of house music called Fidget House which can at some points sound like dubstep, so that adds to the confusion over genres. Fidget House isn't really that good to be honest.

I wouldn't mind if there were more Dubstep arranges of touhou/key/umineko/whatever, but people need to make more Drum & Bass arranges first. There are some excellent ones already, but there's only a very small amount.

Here's another example of drumstep, so you can tell the differences.. Listen to the mid-range bass, and how floaty it is.

To be honest I though this as well. The I heard Tak666's Fidget House mix on his 10CD boxset and he seemed to be using a lot of dubstep sounding stuff in there from time to time (I think he opened with Noisia - Machine Gun (16Bit Remix) which is definately dubstep).

JiNG*da*LaW [Sound Iemitsu] - 千幻 (History of the Moon Arrange): Can't find a youtube link but it's on [SICD-009] IA-Style Toho-J, there's some more D&B on there as well

I'm not sure about a circle name, but the main artist goes by Rin (凛). There are some tracks from SA and the Ghostly Field Club CDs in his mylist so I assume there will be sets of those two eventually.

Dubstep was good around 2004-2006, after that it just turned to shit. I stopped listening to it then and went to old skool jungle and never looked back. Nothing can beat the 90's sound. All this fucking shit cunt assembly line cookie cutter drum pattern garbage makes want to fucking die. That's garage, bro. Where was the dub in that?

History lesson for y'all. Dubstep was created in the United Kingdom, and based its sound on Jamaican dub. You know, reggae. On older dubstep tracks, you'll find the occasional guitar hits on 2 and 4. On others, you'll hear a raggaman toasting.

The only wobble you'd find is in the bass range. And it'd be subtle, too. None of that MWAHWAHWAHWAH shit.
