Valkyrie Profile - The first game I played with a naked loli.

Also the first game that I bawwwed at many of the NPCs.

I preferred VP2's more character-driven storyline.

While VP1 had excellent SECLUDED stories with magnificent characterization, all of your Einherjar short of Lucian and Arngrim had no real influence on the plot (Mystina did there at the end, but meh).

Also the millions-of-micro-turns combat system of 2 was fun to play with.

Actually the intro of VP1 with the kids going to the lily field is probably one of my favorite opening video game scenes ever. It just set up the game nicely IMO.

I am also noticing that every time a developer tries to turn it's regular JRPG franchise into a SRPG it ends up with the entire series going to hell, it was the same with Suikoden and Wild ARMs

The growth of Alicia as a character was handled incredibly well, though.

Albeit the romance with Rufus got kinda horned in there near the end.

Valkyrie Profile is easily the best JRPG I've ever played. The story and gameplay are just amazing and the animations make it timeless. It shits all over the FF series.

Also, if you didn't beat the Cave of Trials in VP1, or SO2, you are small time.

Uh, do you mean the Seraphic Gate? The Cave of Trials in VP1 was just some random dungeon with 3-4 monsters that changed each chapter. Sometimes it was easy as shit, sometimes completely impossible without OHKO weapons.

Yeah that's what I mean. The huge ass dungeon where you face Gabriel Celeste and Iseria Queen. They're so much easier than their SO2 counterparts. The dungeon was difficult enough that they gave you NPCs to join your party. What was your pre-Seraphic Gate party, /jp/?

The first time I played I made it to the end of the Seraphic Gate and beat Iseria Queen when the 2 strongest weapon that I had was the Valkyrie Favor and Levantine. Shit took forever.

VP1's bad coding was hilarious at times. The Cave of Ordeals was one funny broken thing, but Bloodbane had his stats accidentally hardcoded instead of scaled for difficulty, so he was nigh-fucking impossible on 'Easy' mode when you didn't have access to all the awesome equipment. Bow Lenneth's damage also didn't scale correctly, so the mutli-hit attacks made her significantly stronger than sword Lenneth until you got the weapons that gave her the third tier Nibelung Valesti.

Pretty much the same except I exchanged Arngrim for Lucian so I could exploit that glitch that doubled the about of hits of his last attack and took a shitload of crystals of the enemies.

I never ended up experimenting with all the various characters like I should have, I just kept winding up using the same party: Lenneth, Arngrim, Lawfer, Jelanda. There's basically no difference between the casters except HP so I just always wound up sticking with Jelanda since she'd have the most chance to build up HP. Lawfer was awesome in the main part of the game although he got pretty mediocre compared to sword-wielders once you got the best swords. But by that point I was kicking ass enough that it didn't matter.

I've still never finished the Seraphic Gate in VP2, I stopped in the middle and never went back to it or replayed the whole game (1-crystal) like I intended. My first playthrough took me so fucking long because I was always trying to farm stuff requiring breaking certain parts (and usually running away so I didn't overlevel and fuck up future skill training, though it turned out that was mostly a waste as I found out only a handful of skills are really needed)

I mostly used Lucian because I was terribad at knocking out fire orbs and I didn't like to use auto-item.

Speaking of auto-item, didn't this game have a really wonky difficulty curve? After a certain point it seems like every boss has a move that can oneshot your party, so you need to at least use Guts to stay alive.
