That's what bothered me about Umineko the most. When shit went down it was FUCKAWESOME, but when shit wasn't getting down there were so many lengthy conversations about nothing, literally nothing important to the plot at all. I guess it's cute once in a while, but whenever you're not reading a death scene, solution scene or fighting scene, you were reading all about Kinzo's delicious licorice or the BEAUTIFUL ROSE GARDEN that was described several times during the past few fucking episodes.

Listen, you better not ask /jp/ about it because before EP8 it was the craze, but afterwards it just became cool to hate on it (even though it was a kick on the balls from the author and it isn't that good compared to other VNs).

I do admit the first 5 episodes were really good on the fight scenes and puzzle solving, but afterwards it gets a bit off track, as in, adds too many characters with meta-status and the central story is lost. Read if you want half mundane lifestyle of rich Japanese families in the 80s and half intense scenes of semi-mindfuck puzzle-fighting.

Oh, the music's pretty good.

I think EP4 is one of the worst, as well one of the best. The first half is boring as hell (Ange part), while the second half is quite entertaining (if you've only read the previous 3 episodes) since Kinzo makes his move at last, though that same scene also triggered the whole DESIRE crap that people use in the same way of ''bakacirnoXDD''.

OP, you should finish EP1 and then make a judgment. If you enjoyed the latter half of EP1 there is a chance you might enjoy the rest of the episodes, but there's also a chance you may hate them since they differ a lot.

I'd say just play everything for the sake of the music, but if you don't have any time to waste just give up on it now.

The first part of the first novel is pretty fucking bad, but it gets excellent afterwards. As you can probably tell from the thread, opinions split on the latter half of the series, but I at least thoroughly enjoyed it all the way until the end. Actually I liked most of the characters in Umineko. It'd be easier to just list the ones I hated. Let's see...

Jessica, George, Maria, Shannon, Kanon, Mammon, Ange, Sakutaro, Erika, Featherine, Ikuko... That's only about 15% of the cast! I had a very positive or neutral impression of the rest.
