Because even if I built the sexiest character in Tera, I can't make her have sex with other hot characters like I can in Illusion games, 3DCG, Oblivion sex mods and other H-games which can be modded. If I'm going to play a game which provokes bones, I want to be able to finish.

But even if I did have the option in an MMO, those characters are controlled by other players. Male players. Two guys talking dirty while rubbing their female characters against each other?

In this case, seducing an AI would be preferable, but mmos rely on the human male playerbase. There's a reason these waifu simulators are singleplayer games.

I started playing during Open Beta/Head-start, looking forward to honorable, competitive fights between PvP players; players who PvP for the sake of PvP and seek out fights where the odds were even or tipped against you, because coming out of that in one piece is an awesome feeling.

I later found my first adversary: a lancer. I'd studied their abilities, made predictions detailing how he would block if he knew my class "Mystic" and how he would block if he didn't. I mapped out a kiting path, clear of mobs.

The stage was set, enter: my first adversary: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSd4BvKBVKg&feature=plcp

I'm enjoying TERA immensely. Definitely the most fun I've had in an MMO in a long time based solely on the game's merit and not carried by the group I'm playing with. Is it as good as UO or SWG were once upon time? No, of course not. However, as far theme parks go, TERA is easily the best I have played.

That said, I will fully admit the overall community is absolute shit and possibly one of the worst I have ever seen in an MMO. However, it seems like every AAA MMO launch community is worse than the previous one, so this may simply be a result of that effect. Time will tell.

I leveled through the game with a friend, and when we hit 50 we started complaining about the ridiculous amounts of HP, even though we were doing damage together.

I heard that 58-59 and 59-60 are even harder than the regular 50s.

We kept on playing because we were hoping the 60 endgame would be good, but after reading many discouraging posts about people who are saying there is nothing to do we just decided the huge time investment wouldn't weigh up to the enjoyment once we got there.

Quests in the level 60 zones generally give around 10-20g or so for relatively short requirements, such as killing X monster 6-8 times. The monsters (at least in the Argonea region) usually come in pairs and can be mobbed easily. I haven't been able to play much since reaching 60 but that is just my experience over the past couple of days. You can also run instances and hope you get gold drops and the like and sell them on the broker. Hell, I sell almost anything on the broker just because it works like a pay4bank and allows you to earn some extra money while you keep your own bank space free for more important items.

Made a video about a week ago about it.
http://youtu.be/fzw7WUeKfpE

What you can expect in this game: Pretty design, waifu simulator, a way to forget your life blows for a while. You're treating yourself to a nice visual tour of a vast world that will very much please the eyes.

What you shouldn't expect: the combat system to live up to its hype. Its a good step up from the traditional but its still nothing new. Questing system and generally the entire structure of the game's build and progression is pretty much WoW.

I bought it at 50 dollars, got my month, got to max level, decided I got my money's worth. After my 3 month sub expires I will probably take a hiatus until the next expansion.

Also, if any /jp/ players out there are in dead Freeholds server, I own a small guild for anyone interested. Despite being a nobody's guild, considered how dead the server is, I might try for vanarchy in a low priority spot. General policy is all NPC enabled, 0% tax. We take it easy, so if you don't have a guild, I'll gladly take you in.

Yes. I can do that quite easily though. I have about 10 shadow members for the guild that will join in any given notice, and then about 10 more in various other guilds that are planning on quitting soon. Freeholds server is actually unbelievably unpopulated. Currently, there is only one guild that has the member count to take the vanarchy and they plan on monopolizing every area in the game, so I want to see if I can't sneak in a win somewhere with less priority.

Its a long shot, but I'm thinking making plans to collaborate with other guilds to narrow down our votes so that we can prevent at least 2 or 3 areas from being completely dominated by one guild.

I don't really want to set up recruitment ads as crowding a guild with random members leads to filling it with complete assholes, which is why the guild has been so small so far, but if anyone on /jp/ can take it easy and is in freeholds or would like to support our attempt at anti-monopoly, you're definitely welcome to help out.

I'm not trying to into guild drama or anything, but I would really hate to see one guild and their 8 side guild spawns take every area and set taxes at like 10%. I just want everyone to enjoy the game, so 0% is my policy.

Isn't this just another Korean MMO where there's no storyline or depth to the world, which just happens to exist to facilitate grinding levels, grinding endgame gear and standing around once there's nothing left to do? Actually I did play a bit of the Japanese version and got bored pretty quickly.

I just can't get into any MMOs after FFXI. It feels like I'm playing progress quest unless I get really immersed. To get me to really love a new MMO my following expectations would mostly need to be met:

-overreaching storylines
-lots of interesting quests (not repetitive XP-reward ones, mostly just for fun+some nice item rewards)
-high quality art direction - not too cartoony, not too grimdark.
-a beautiful OST
-aesthetically pleasing character models, but nothing over the top
-absense of bloom or other shiny graphical effects
-cutscenes
-primarily party based gameplay throughout the game (otherwise I may as well play a single player RPG)
-game should be fun from the start. I shouldn't have to grind to max level, no matter how easy it is, before I start having fun.
-new content must not make old content obselete (people buying the game late should be able to enjoy everything that was released previously)
-a mature community
-should cater more to players wanting adventure and escape from reality than people who play "to win"

I could probably go on. If I spend hundreds of hours on a game it better be 11/10.

Cool starry bra incoming.

I'll give you that, definitely. Once you get past the initial allure of having to aim your abilities, Tera is basically the same shit as any other MMO.

One thing I genuinely enjoyed about FFXI was the story immersion like you mentioned, but outside of mission cut-scenes and a few group specific events (e.g. level-capped CoP missions) the game came across as a snooze-fest. Having to wait a year for a new expansion once you completed the old one is understandable, but made it really obnoxious all the same.

I've always enjoyed PvP as a means of whetting my "dynamic, fast paced content" whistle, but unfortunately the PvP on Tera essentially boils down to grinding to 60 in 3 days so you can go griefing in Lumbertown.

It's not a bad story, it's just a normal one with a retarded " I'm too badass for this world" elf saving the day all the time. Nothing to stand out here.

>lots of interesting quests (not repetitive XP-reward ones, mostly just for fun+some nice item rewards)
First, I hate this point. It makes no fucking sense. No MMO has "cool, fun quests". They're always there just to unlock something or give exp.
Anyway, my faggot ranting aside, it will always be kill x, gather x, you know. Very linear and comfortable.

>high quality art direction - not too cartoony, not too grimdark.
For sure, dude. If you've played the japanese version, then you already know, what the heck. The game has lots of problems, but the visual design is it's strongest quality, with beautiful scenarios, lots of pretty details and nice variation of environments. Although it also has it's problems, with lots of invisible walls and glitched ramps, and the camps get really repetitive using always the same walls with a campfire in the middle.

>a beautiful OST
The normal OST doesn't stand out much, but the BAM themes (there's quite a lot of them) are very good. Have you ever played Shadow of the Colossus? Some of the tracks bear striking similarities.

>aesthetically pleasing character models, but nothing over the top
The models are well made, but they all are so pushed up to one or another extreme that you have to decide this by yourself. Do you think the Elin's gigantic hips are "over the top"? Or is the absurd conglomeration of fanservice in one single character of the Castanics the "over the top"? I myself find the Castanics absurdly ridiculous, while others may think they're the epitome of coolness.

Continues.

Is the combat really that boring for you guys? I agree that it becomes natural after a while, but if you go back to a normal auto attack mmo you might miss it. I did a dungeon earlier where everyone in the party died at least once. You had to be paying attention to the boss to dodge his aoe or get one shotted.

Well, the game is really pretty and all that, but indeed it does get overly shiny sometimes. Specially in the deserts.

They're there, they're nothing stupendous, but then again, it's a MMO, not Metal Gear. The english voices are cool, but it's always bizarre to watch they try to synch with the korean mouth movements. You can use the patch for the korean voices if you want.

>primarily party based gameplay throughout the game (otherwise I may as well play a single player RPG)
You'll have plenty of that. You can storm to level 60 alone fine, but you'll have to grind repeatables or skipable zones to compensate the experience from the BAMs (NPCs constantly give you quests to kill them) and the instance quests. And instance quests not only give good gear, but a FUCKLOAD of exp.

>game should be fun from the start. I shouldn't have to grind to max level, no matter how easy it is, before I start having fun.
Maybe you won't have fun on the beginning as a healer, since you won't have to actually heal anything until level 20... otherwise, it's all cool. Then again, what you will be doing at level 10 is the same you'll be doing at level 60, except with more BAMs that insta kill you and more skills on your bar. So if you're not enjoying to combat from the start, don't think you'll start liking it later.

If you play on a PvE server, that'll be about it -- obviously with it's share of MUST GET GEAR guys, you can't escape from x type of people anywhere. On the PvP servers, well, it's a korean game, it's made so people try to make the best party setups to murder each other more effectively.

I probably would be playing TERA now since there doesn't seem to be anything better, were it not for the fact that the executives have Downs and decided to make the subscription fee in Japan $35 per month (I'll be living there soon)... if it comes down I might consider it.

Wouldn't this make it impossible for the game to have enough quests from level 1 to max? It's cool to have a different and exciting mission here and there, but it's impossible to have this done with all one billion quests you'll be doing.
That said, I never played FFXI. I'm curious, since you talk as if they achieved such a feat.

When I played FFXI for a short stint in like 2007, it was mostly "find a group, kill monsters in said group, over and over". There wasn't really any questing or whatever to be had. Mind you, this was from levels 10-20. My friend then dragged me around for a bit leveling me to 25 (which was incredibly faster, to a stupid degree) but I got bored and quit anyway.

I've played RO for 6 years, and TERA is nothing like it. RO was all about the adventure of leveling up in itself. Quests only to unlock dungeons, then grab your gear, your friends, and kill stuff all night long. It was about becoming stronger slowly, not about reaching endgame and then doing things.

Personally, I like RO's style better. I'm only out because of Renewal (FUCK Renewal) and the sad cashfest it became.

Anyway, if you want to compare TERA to anything else, it's more like the forgotten son of WoW with Aion.

I never meant that levelling should take place through questing, just that there should be fun quests. I accept that an MMO will generally need some cheaply implemented grind to keep people busy + subscribing. FFXI levelling was party based monster grinding.

The closest thing to what I described in FFXI would be missions, which were big important quests with cutscenes, lots of adventure, dungeon crawling and boss fights, which linked together to form part of an overarching storyline. Typically each expansion would have its own story arc. They didn't reward XP and money and item rewards were minimal, they were just worth doing in themselves. It's this kind of stuff that makes me feel like I'm playing like a real RPG online, and not just progress quest. Seeing the lack of it in other MMOs makes me feel disappointed and not feel like playing.

Ah I remember the time when I was playing FFXI

I was pretty much into story missions and quests and I did all that I could do. But frankly most of them are pretty shallow and boring, like get 10 onions or 5 crab meat. Lot of running around and rarely any good reward.

A few quests were insanely difficult (Maat's cap, or the Monk's Black Belt) or required an exaggerate amount of farming.

There were a few that were worth it, with interesting story, but not very much.

I got max rank in all three nations too, and then I finished all the missions of Zilart, CoP and Aht Urghan.

Later on they were good for pulling SCNM mobs out from behind a ton of aggro to more favorable locations for fighting, but that wasn't until mid-late WotG. Still, it's kind of sad that's the only legitimate use they ever came up with for BST. I really enjoyed the job and took it to 75 long before Astral Flow burns or Abyssea power leveling were the EXPing method of choice, but it never really got much use. >> No.9026701

>>9026537

Well, at least from what I saw most large endgame LSes had dissolved. Mine was one of the last on Unicorn (merged to Fenrir) and even we ended up breaking mostly. Last I checked 3 members were left out of our 25+ solid base that we had going for around 6 years I think.

Basically, Abyssea was great content in and of itself outside a few minor gripes, but progression was too fast. They tried to change FFXI's content delivery to something more akin to WoW where gear is obtained relatively fast, but then Tanaka came back to the FFXI dev team and stuff slowed down again.

Now, this doesn't necessarily sound like something that would destroy the community but Abyssea so so ridiculously easy to low-man that a lot of people were actually buying second accounts and "soloing" endgame content with multiple characters. This took down most of the LSes with weaker bonds between their members because, you know, why wait in line for gear when you can just go get it for yourself?

For long established LSes like mine, we just ran out of content to do. Eventually people got bored and left because we just didn't have fun anymore. We kept things interesting over the years by rotating content and doing a little bit of everything. With Abyssea the old content became obsolete and pointless for us to run anymore so by the time we finished Abyssea, we had nothing to do but Voidwatch. Voidwatch could have been nice, but it just wasn't enough and plus we had already lost about half our LS by that point. Also, the loot system for it was terrible.

>> No.9026702

The image right there, and also the photo of the original unpainted GK, shows the ahoge intact. It's definitely on their end.

The ears were facing the top of the box along with the ahoge. That makes me think whoever put the foam there should have been more careful, or the head should have been in another position.

Cont'd

Overall, the game has taken a turn toward being a lot more about smaller groups and less about large groups for endgame content. If you were wanting to go back, I'd say sure. Go for it. It's a lot more accessible now and leveling is a breeze compared to how it used to be. Going from level 30 to 99 in a day or two of moderate playing isn't unheard of or even uncommon. Over the past few years there have been a lot of improvements overall. My only gripe is that they finally did what they refused to do for years--outright make old content and gear obsolete. I don't even mind my old gear being useless, but giving us no reason to do old content and then making the new content extremely fast to progress through by comparison just left us with nothing to do.

That said, I would probably go back in a few more months to see the new rehashes of old content and how they did it if my LS were still around. After years of endgame and being an elitist jerk in a pretty good LS, I doubt I'd be happy playing around in pick-ups.
