it was originally used on self-harm forums to indicate content that might make someone self-harm (ie. trigger them), but it spread on other sites an gained a broader meaning as content that might cause any intense negative emotional response (such as panic attacks or PTSD flashbacks). people started abusing it, labeling any possibly upseting minor shit as "trigger". the rest of the internet started making fun of it and ironically abusing it untill it bacame some kinda meme. now it is devoid of any meaning.
