Where is the helm and the hauberk, and the bright hair flowing?
Where is the hand on the harp-string, and the red fire glowing?
Where is the spring and the harvest and the tall corn growing?
They have passed like rain on the mountain, like a wind in the meadow;
The days have gone down in the West behind the hills into shadow.

I'm currently working on a chan, but it's not quite ready yet, so I'm not pushing it for now. It's goals are going to be to provide a clean place to discuss Otaku interests, especially Touhou. It's currently working, but it needs a lot of features. I'm going to be working on it heavily once I get the free time. I'm planning on getting it in motion with a few groups of friends that I am involved with. I'm not going to be posting on 4chan unless it is strictly related to the topic of the discussion, because I don't believe in that kind of advertising.

>> No.9746876

old /jp/: self-moderation, filter, hide, report raid threads, and be mature about ignoring threads you dislike
result: huge variety of healthy, interesting, and meaningful discussion

new /jp/: crying "meido" for a 15 year old to babysit them, attention seeking children who have to let you know they reported on-topic material, people form reddit/gaia/sa/narutoforums pridefully saying they only have been on /jp/, the average age went from 26 to 17-19, and idiots who only post complaints on the board, but think they aren't shitposters.
result: daycare center for children after school to take out their stress, the quality of the board is worse than /a/v/m/tg/r9k/pol/ and many other boards, yet the kids straight from gaia still like to pretend /jp/ is even a shadow of its former self since they arrived.

/jp/ is shit compared to the golden days and it's barely better than /b/ comparatively to other boards currently. it'll only be improved when all the people who need a "meido" disappear, but luckily everyone who cries for moderation leaves quickly enough.

That probably wouldn't be one of the main topics of the site, especially at first, but I probably wouldn't mind it as long as it is good discussion and the community supports it. The goal isn't to make a /jp/ away from /jp/, but to have a place of discussion for me and my friends.
>>9746884
You meanTohno chan?

Not that I'm experienced with the site, but from what I can guess about it:
1. My site would be differently moderated and have a different set of rules.
2. It would have different sets of discussion and would probably be very minimal.
3. It would support a niche community of /jp/ users and their friends.

What would your ideal /jp/ look like?

Please respond. Don't be kopipe.

>> No.9746985

>>9746963
Another thing I would like to add: It's not means to be another /jp/ or any other chan. We already have that, and even if it's not perfect, we are probably going to stick with it to the end. It's main goal is going to be to facilitate a series of niche discussions and interests that are related to our culture but are not on topic anywhere here or elsewhere.

But this is all theoretical talk. The site isn't finished yet, so I really shouldn't be talking. I just have a vision and I want to pursue it because I think that it is necessary and has the potential to be a very fun place. It's a little pet-project, so-to-speak. I wish that I had more free time to work on it, though.

>> No.9746989

You should elaborate on 1 and 2.

>What would your ideal /jp/ look like?

Unmoderated except that there would be bans for mentioning or implying you're underage, discussing school, work or relationships, and sub-par shitposting(which I define).

Alternatively, there could be two random times of the day when off-topic threads are deleted - that would be the old way except institutionalized.

>> No.9747071

>>9746989
1: The only rule is probably going to be "if you don't think it's right, don't post it. Otherwise, find out." Everybody is going to know what they are there for, so staying on-topic isn't going to be hard. The true topic of the chan is probably going to be dependend on the community either way. I expect everyone to be mature and mindful of each other.
2: I don't want to disclose this just yet because I think that it will give me away. I'll talk about this once the site is finished.
>Unmoderated
It's not going to be unmoderated, although keeping the moderation noninvasive to positive posters is going to be a priority.
>mentioning or implying you're underage
I'm not going to pay attention to people's ages. I am going to judge people exclusively on their behavior and the quality of their posts.
>discussing school, work or relationships
I think that we would keep this kind of talk elsewhere.
>and sub-par shitposting(which I define).
I agree heartily with this. Spam, asinine one-liners, and flaming won't be allowed. I think that off-topic discussion can be positive to the site and a good way to lighten the mood, but it it has to be positive and match the culture of the community. I want the site to be a good place to take it easy as well as enjoy proper Otaku Culture.
>Alternatively, there could be two random times of the day when off-topic threads are deleted - that would be the old way except institutionalized.
I'm probably going to be moderating posts as they come. The board is going to be small enough for that.

>> No.9747078

Your board is most likely going to stay very small. Chans all over the world are already very atomized, practically all topics and niche interests are covered. If a new chan is to gain popularity, it has to be special in some way, especially if it's about otaku culture and Japan.

You not caring about people's ages implies that you're young, maybe even underage. Age correlates with post quality(including shitposting quality) until about mid-20s.

>> No.9747181

>Age correlates with post quality(including shitposting quality) until about mid-20s.

You only believe that because you are in your mid-20s and have no real qualities so you delude yourself into thinking you're a great poster and others aren't because of the age gap between you.

I'm in my early 20s and a proud shitposter who doesn't like to discuss things in an educated, calm way. That remark was based on what I've observed on chans over the years and that the male human brain matures in its mid-20s.

I respect your opinion, but I just don't agree. I think that being young is a large part of what makes an Otaku. I'm sorry that my site doesn't match your vision, but I'm not going to change it.

What do people learn between the ages of twenty-one and twenty-four that makes them better posters?

Post quality is strongly correlated with not being a retard and there are retards and non-retards of all ages. In the teenaged years you also get people who think they're hot shit and try and act intellectual (and end up coming off like tryhard retards instead,) but I sure hope that shit has worn off by the time you hit your twenties.
