What's the difference between a NEET and a hikkimori? Is there a difference?

>> No.9995908

Yes, since they are both words with entirely different meanings.
Google them

>> No.9995913

A NEET is someone who is Not in Education, Employment or Training.
A hikikomori is someone who refuses to leave their house and isolates themselves from society for at least six months.

Obviously they have other connotations, so don't be a tryhard turboautist who gets upset because someone implied NEETs were bad socially or hikikomori like cartoons.

Plenty of hikikomori in Japan live alone because their parents support them. In fact, that's part of the problem--parents would rather send their kids money so they can live alone in cheap apartments than accept their children as failures and dishonor their Japanese spirit.
Those hikikomori have to eat and buy supplies. Not everything can be delivered. Deliveries still involve some social interaction.

Sato in the Welcome to the NHK novel solved the problem by going to a local 24-hour convenience store late at night. Most Western countries don't really have those, but you can still go to a supermarket and not lose your hikikomori license.

Alot of my depression and anxiety stopped when I got approved for the bux. It provided a major self-esteem boost because I was no longer leeching off my parents. I also stopped smoking weed every day which made me even more anxious and paranoid. Now I just drink almost every night and either study or browse /jp/. This is where I'd like to point out the distinction between "NEET" and "unemployed". Most official definitions for unemployment mean you have looked for work within the past X weeks. It also has age boundaries and often excludes students, people with disabilities, retired people or the elderly. NEET doesn't make these distinctions.

People are way too comfortable with open source/free software. "Oh, it's open source, therefore it's fine."
There are problems in open source software all the time. There was a big fuss on GitHub a month or two ago because a popular piece of software was deleting people's /usr directories or something like that.
You don't audit all that code yourself. There are audit teams for software intended to be secure, and even they make mistakes. A former employee of some software company emailed the OpenBSD team to say their NDA expired and that they added a backdoor for the FBI. People have spent thousands of man hours looking for that backdoor, it still hasn't been found. If it exists, one of the most renowned, secure programs that runs on millions of computers could be completely open to attack.
And even if it was possible to examine every line of code you run (a feat that would take several lifetimes), can you trust the compiler you compile it with?
