It was a naturally occurring part of discussion. If the thread had started with the post, "What does /jp/ think of prison rape in medieval France?" then obviously it would have been deleted.

The alternatives are to cherry pick and force posters to stay on the straight and narrow in a way that makes everyone uncomfortable, or to delete threads when the general discussion steers too far off-topic.

First thirty pages or so of /ghost/. Those categories were fairly arbitrary and there was some overlap (and I might have gotten confused once or twice). I skipped most of the art + catchphrase images ("Sex with Youmu!" and so on), as well as a lot of NEET threads. I also skipped video games threads, though a few cases were interesting (e.g. the janitor deleted threads dedicated to the Dreamcast and PC-98, but not the PSP or 3DS). I checked each thread to see if anyone replied confirming the OP had deleted it or was banned,
There are other threads that have stood out to me lately, but nobody cared about on /ghost/. Someone made a Ruby (Japanese programming language) thread, and it was deleted. I also saw a Japanese cell phone thread and a Japanese snack food thread a few days ago, they were both deleted too.

Most of these threads are terrible, but compared to the stuff that's left I would prefer a lot more of these threads to stay. The janitor needs to give more people the benefit of the doubt and stop taking "/jp/ haet Japan >:(" so seriously. If someone wants to post this cool thing from Japan, why not let them? There's a difference between someone asking what tourist attractions to visit, and someone posting a cool thing Japan made or did.
It would also be nice of the janitor to let threads sit around longer. He judges the original post far too much. Sometimes he deletes threads because he didn't get the reference. Sometimes he deletes threads because they had not enough (or too much) text qualifying them as /jp/-related material. As long as it's from Japan but not anime, manga, or mainstream video games, why not give it a chance? If we aren't interested, the thread will die. It's not like we're forced to discuss it.

>> No.10152745,20 [INTERNAL]

It's not even about cherry picking. I would sort of understand if the janitor decided to delete a "japanese cars" thread, but keep the "japanese music" one. That would be a perfect example of cherry picking, which is somewhat alright.

What doesn't make any sense is when he prioritizes purely off-topic threads, like the Middle Age Prison rape one, or Fridey Night threads, over "Japan/General" topics or touhou.

Nothing was more off-topic at the time of "Was Jeanne d'Arc raped in prison?".

Ignoring threads you don't like is fairly easy.
What's diffucult though, is returning to the front page after getting a Japan/General/borderline/Touhou thread deleted and discover a thread about JdA virginity, with the report queue getting purged every 5 minutes.

Sheesh, get over that Joan of Arc thing. Threads about Saber turn into discussions about King Arthur. Threads about Saya turn into discussions about H. P. Lovecraft. I can understand a thread going so off-the-rails that it's no longer salvageable, but it was a harmless discussion of the source material a character is based on with a very /jp/ spin to it. Don't try to impede the natural flow of discussion because every post must be on-topic or else, otherwise you just piss off a lot of people for no benefit.
It also sets the precedent that you can just ramble in an on-topic thread and get it deleted. A thread about the new Touhou game? I don't want that. Have any of you guys considered that maybe God isn't real, the Holocaust is a lie, and circumcision is mutilation? Please reply promptly so the janitor deletes the thread instead of my post. Oh, and if he does delete all our posts, that's cherry picking.

No. You shut the fuck up and let people have fun. An on-topic thread going on a tangent and turning into a harmless, off-topic discussion does not mean /jp/ is now a 2D/Random board that has been ruined forever. It just means it's a message board. >with the report queue getting purged every 5 minutes

I think this is the crux of the matter here. Why the fuck are you reporting the same thread every 5 minutes? You're a single person and your opinion is not more valid than others. Regardless of how good the thread actually was, you don't get to dictate upon the moderation and the rest of the board on how things should be run.

You're the same sole guy that keeps going on and on about how all the shitty threads are protected while the "core topics" are deleted systematically. I look at the deleted threads and see nothing of the sort, just deleted shitthreads piling up on top of each other and I fear for the moment we don't have moderation to take care of all of it.

This is not Japan/General, and you don't get to impose what the board is about. The report system is just a way to inform moderation that rulebreaking threads/posts are still on the board, and it's nothing more than a suggestion. If they choose to ignore the isolated, single voice of a maniac with a grudge, then good for them because, and I can't say this enough, you're only one person and your opinion is not worth more than others.

>you don't get to dictate upon the moderation and the rest of the board on how things should be run.
Reporting a thread is "dictating upon the moderation" now?
I also was obviously exaggerating, I only noticed that the queue got cleared at least once by accident, basically.

Once again you missed completely the point. The problem, as far as I am concerned, is not that things I might not like don't get deleted. It's the things I do like getting trashed which upsets me.
