Consider this. The historical/mythical parts of the Tanakh are just a repeat of this pattern:
1. God creates a covenant with his chosen people and blesses them with riches
2. God gives them laws
3. They break the laws
4. God spanks them a bit and then return to 1
Jewish people throughout history have seen the same pattern repeating until today where they are vastly over-represented in art, entertainment, finance and politics.
Meanwhile, Christians do everything they're taught to do but get stomped repeatedly to the point where Romans had to invent new forms of torture to fuck with them. They get rolled by muslims, they get rolled by the black death and finally get rolled by a series of revolutions that end up breaking the back of the religion.
God, clearly, is very real but it's not the new testament God you should be worrying about.
