Do any anons have any experience with speed reading? Would it be worthwhile to train? Are there any programs that actually work?

You can increase your reading speed up to a point and comprehension along with it up to a certain point. But past a certain point, limitations of the eye start to hit (around 500-600 wpm).

That's really the fastest you can go while retaining good comprehension.

but how do you get to 500-600 wpm?

Yeah I've completely switched to only reading wikipedia summaries of books and I can finish over a dozen per day now. Would recommend.

If i like a book, i usually read 100 pages/h. I just read faster, the brain gets hooked up on the story so the comprehension and concentration are not a problem. The thing is: dont stop to reread stuff, just keep on reading, your brain will understand everything even if it didnt read it all. Eventually you will learn to read at this rate. But in the beginning DONT REREAD.

I went to a 5-day workshop as a teen. We read 21 R.L. Stine books as practice.
It works. Also, retention is better. We got tested after each one, and I still remember somebody drove a *yellow* SUV.

It's 100% useless if you read something which has a logical argument, requires more than 3 neurons to grasp and/or competently uses the written word.

I cannot understand this. I love appreciating prose, looking how the sentence is written, feel how it flows, understand the ideas and feel them. When you just read fast fast we have to hurry, the book becomes nothing but plot and flat ideas.
