it's hard. as gay as it sounds, sitting with your emotions and settling is helpful. I have unbelievable attention issues, often can't get through a page. I've found that in moments of emotional release or resolution, focus returned a little bit.

Also, your reason *why* matters. I'll struggle with homework, and then find focus for something I don't need to read, or for an argument online. Similarly, when I'm very curious about something, it becomes easier to read.

I recommend this: 1. Let it become an activity, don't put undue pressure on yourself, just read whatever strikes you as interesting and maybe take a small amount of notes to feel like you're really doing something. 2. Read before bed, establish a routine, make it something chill and straightforward and you will gradually get better. 3. Antidepressants. You will become stable and will read a little more normally, but at the cost of a significant personality change. You will be a normie

>>23137029
You're not a p-zombie, are you? You can imagine what an delicisious apple would smell, look, feel and taste like, can't you?
If so, just find something you're intrested about and read about it.
That's literally all there is to it.

Very nice response. Everyone with these problems has the ability to overcome them. But they need to take the time to sit through their emotions and distractedness, and ask themselves why they read. Or why they do anything.
Almost all people (I estimate 99.999%), even smart people, do not do this, and that is why they have problems, even though they are very smart.

Eliminate distractions. I only use a flip phone, and sold my video games and gaming computer. I use a $50 chrome book now as my only source of internet connection, and my focus and concentration has never been better. ADHD is being treated with B1 supplementation. That's what gives you the shakes with too much caffeine, sugar, alcohol stripping it (and difficulty falling asleep).

Screen text has different tracking by the eyes compared to physical paper, requiring some transition between the two. Limit screen time and use the blue light filter app to moderate eye strain, especially late afternoon to early evening.

Pick 5 reading queues by topic, genre, whatever. Structure what you want to read. Switch between fiction/non-fiction ones so your mind has time to ruminate on the non-fiction in the background.

I'm a zoomer who has ADD, and this was a weakness I eventually conquerored. It's pretty much a willpower issue. You have to try as hard as you can to focus, comprehend, and eventually it becomes easy. A book is like a treadmill for your imagination, especially when we're talking about stories that demands close attention in order to envision a particular scene. Perhaps you have it worse than me though. Stuff like this is probably on a spectrum.

Shut your electronic devices off, go to a place with no such interference or to another room in which you can sit comfortably and focus on the book, open it and just read. Works for me, and I faced the same issue and often take long pauses between reading (something I am getting better at improving), and I also tore through Dosto's The Idiot in about a week or two this year.

Block websites; physically prevent or make it difficult for you to do time wasters. You're not going to get anywhere just by trying to mentally guide your brain. Discipline is a physical tactic.

It's not just ADD, same for everyone who gets distracted by phones and video games. Just gotta re-train your brain to concentrate, sometimes you don't want to and it's uncomfortable at first, but it's like physical training, most of it is discipline and motivation.

Also ignore pop-science like "you burned out your dopamine receptors", it's not important what the chemical cause is, because you can fix it without knowing anything about that.
