thine very question, dear boy, the very parsing of worthiness from bovine excrement, the indisputable hallmarks of a nascent love of truth, an ethereal yearning for authenticity, points by all means to a philosophical mind.

like most things, vast majority of it is. but in the field of philosophy this rule is for some reason extra true. you have to be brutally critical in deciding who to read. whether he is full of fluff, is he coherent, does he help you think more clearly or has any other merit that warrant reading him, are important questions.

The only philosophy that really matters is that which tackles the essence of life itself. Things like determinism vs free will are intellectually stimulating but don't really add anything to your life

>> No.23113215

>>23112815
If you have to ask, you're probably going to get turned off by the "pacing". Some stuff gets written, and then no one gives a good reply to it for hundreds of years, if ever. There's also the fact that if you're aimless about it, you won't get a lot out of it, and mostly end up with a mess of a world view, by taking bits that sound like "live, laugh, love" inspirational quotes.
>>23113201
And then there's the low IQs like this anon, who don't see the usefulness in knowing all the wrong ways to think about a topic, even if we haven't found the correct way yet. There's a ton of value in knowing all the wrong ways to approach a problem, and the skills you develop from working through these problems, can be applied to all other aspects of your life.
It's also incredibly low IQ to think that there's much left to be said about our essence. For the last 50ish years, we've been stuck in this post-modern hellhole, that hasn't produced much worthwhile writing. You have to move into the niches, to get anything interesting currently. The current skill to develop is being able to identify all the post-modern trash, from the actual writing, which is actually one of the most important skills to learn. Based on how easily people are falling into Marxism, feminism, CRT, queer theory, etc it might be the most important skill to develop.

>> No.23114180

The ancient philosophical schools are interesting they were concerned with the way one should live and find happiness. With modern philosophy your choice is largely between autistic abstract ramblings or rancid faggotry (marxism).

>> No.23114324

Philosophy is just logic art. Each philosopher focuses on what facts or axioms he most closely aligns then paints his own worldview. The vastness of variables, known and unknown, make the rendering of a complete system a futile effort -- yet it must be pursued.

It’s useful to an extent but you should think about life on your own and come to your own conclusions. It’s just rare to discover anything unique about reality and there’s probably already a philosopher who encapsulates your thought better than you do.

Philosophy has always been psychology until it became a specialized field that focuses on the behaviour of the mind. It's always been a part of philosophy to answer that question and is already seen in Plato where he attempted to answer questions like "what motivates us to act a certain way?" "what ends and goals as re worth pursuing?" "what is happiness, and what causes it?". If you say you like psychology more you're just saying you like focusing more on philosophical questions that concern psychology, or you like reading about perverted theories by Jews. Philosophy is superior in every way.

I had a similar experience. Got into philosophy in early adulthood but let it go to pursue social skills, a career and a gf. Now I have a wife and a kid in my late 20's and getting back into philosophy. Nothing feels more meaningful than to teach philosophy to my kid when he gets older.
