If you're starting with the Greeks I recommend you get the Fagles translation of the Iliad
The Iliad and the Odyssey are by far the most important things to read

Copleston a pretty good supplementary text for a very broad overview, but it is much more rewarding to read the primary texts first. Just read some Plato and Aristotle and see where it takes you. If you want a better companion text, check out Strauss.
