for esl people they translate act as book this is true for slavic and romance languages, because the word act has no analog and can be highly ambiguous, english has a bunch of these words that mean different things based on context other languages are more vocabulary rich, this adds to their confusion when they read greek and roman plays which drop act completely and use book instead.
