The fact that so many sites still name Ocarina of Time as "the greatest or most significant or most influential" video game ever only tells you how far video games still are from becoming a serious art. Film critics have long recognized that the greatest films of all times are Citizen Kane and The Seventh Seal, who were not the most famous or richest or best sellers of their times, let alone of all times. Literature critics rank the highly controversial Joyce's Ulysses over classical novels who were highly popular in libraries around Europe. Video games critics are still blinded by commercial success. Ocarina of Time invented lock-on (not true, by the way), therefore it must have been the greatest. Film critics grow up watching a lot of films of the past, literature critics grow up reading a lot of classical books of the past. Video game critics are often totally ignorant of the video games of the past, they barely know the Nintendo games. No wonder they will think that Ocarina did anything worthy of being saved.

I think 512 MB RAM was a bit too high for 1999. Unless I'm mistaken, a higher-end PC of the time would have 256.

Yes, that's what I vaguely remember as well. At the time I had a series of unremarkable shitheaps bought on the cheap, each of whom died after about 2 years due to a combo of dodgy house wiring and mega-garbage PSUs. Can't really remember their specs exactly, but I partly recall the one I had in 2000 came with 128 MB RAM, and the one I replaced it with in 2002 had 256.

Its pretty obvious why the game wasn't a success outside of Japan, but why did it flop in Japan?
Sega had sold probably something between 4,5 to 5 million Saturn's in Japan by the time of its released yet it didn't even manage to sell a 100K.

>> No.10888105

It is. For me it would have been the entire reason to own a Saturn.
In fact I didn’t even know this game had a home release, if I did, I probably would have bought a Saturn just for this game.
My family used to do a lot of horse betting as a kid and the track had a Die Hard arcade machine, so I’d end up just putting 20 dollars of quarters into the machine and play for hours.
It’s the best 3D beat-em-up ever, like seriously this is the absolute top shelf for that genre. It’s perfect.
I like the dynamite deka sequels, but playing it without the Die Hard branding is tangibly less soulful.

Also +1 for punching women in the face and it saying

I'm not even sure honestly. On one hand, it's amazing, on the other hand, I can't help but feel like I'm playing a tranny game.

Jk, I don't know. It's fun but the UI isn't great. There's too much stuff so you spend a long time cleaning your inventory. And the inventory being what it is just makes it worse. The balance seems a little all over the place. They don't tell you about the radio much in NV so I kinda forgot it was even a thing.
Probably still a better game than FO3.

Just beat this for the 1st time a few minutes ago after years of getting filtered by the trials or getting bored in Klamath from running out of ammo. Pretty cool, kind of buggy, didn't play with any fan patches or the restoration project. Started playing a few weeks before I found out the show was coming out. Probably still like the 1st one more, by the end of 2 it was starting to get tedious, even with me only playing it a few hours every weekend. Found the spleen mission on my way to launch the tanker, decided to do it. Fucking stupid, waste of time, annoying.

Probably going to go back an play one, only beatbit twice and last time was like 10 years ago, might see if there's some kind of restored content mod. Did anyone ever try to make a Van Buren mod that was any good?

I know, I know, frontends are evil or whatever, but it'd be nice to have an easy way to cycle through my games. Right now I just have a folder full of bat files which isn't very neat, it'd be nice to have a program for easy selection.

I've had a look around, but all I can find are retards selling hard drives for 2 grand FULLY LOADED with shitty hyperspin wheels. All I want is a window designed for mouse selection, I want a grid of game box art or whatever I can just point and click on the game I want to play and the bat file will boot up and start the game for me. I don't need the fucking video bloat or eight pages of screenshots to remind me what Time Crisis is about, and I don't want these god awful wheels you have to slowly scroll through to find what you want to fucking play, I've got a big screen, I can fit 50 titles on it and just shoot the one I want to play.

>It is one thing to hear/read about how well we are doing in Japan vs. Sony, it's another to personally witness it. | just visited 10 retail stores in Tokyo (most in Akihabra); it's now spring break so the crowds of teens/college kids are huge. We are killing Sony. In every store, Saturn hardware is sold out and there are stacks of Playstation. The retailers commented they can't compare the true sales rate because Saturn sells out before they can measure accurately. Our interactive displays are better, our software displays and stocking far superior. It is not unusual to see 40-50 copies of Panzer Zwei or Virtua Fighter 2 stocked in even small stores and they are selling fast. I wish I could get all our staff, sales people, retailers, analysts, media, etc. to see and understand what's happening in Japan; they would then understand why we will win here in the U.S. eventually. How do we show that at E3? - Tom
