Hey guys, this is Layne Floigley. You might know me as the lead singer of Floigan in Chains (formerly Alice in Chains). By the way, I'm dead. Anyway, I ran into a couple old buddies of mine while I was buying a pack of smokes at the Circle K last week: Floig Jones Jr. and Tyrese Floigson. We used to shoot junk and watch cartoons together n' stuff... it was real cool, man. By the way, I'm dead. Anyway, they were telling me how there was some anti-floiganism going down 'round these parts, and they said I should stop by and have a little chat with you guys. The first thing I want you to know is that I used to be a huge faggot. Everybody thought I was super chill and friendly n' stuff, even though all I ever did was sing about depression, drug use, and suicide. I also invited a guy on stage during one of my concerts and sucker punched him for giving a Nazi salute while surrounded by hundreds of fans and security guards because of how tolerant and brave I was n' stuff, even though I had no problem directly funding murder and child trafficking by buying massive amounts of black market opiates. I even let my girlfriend get fucked by a bunch of old men for heroin money even though I had millions of dollars, because I spent it all on heroin. By the way, she's dead. Anyway, the point is, I was a total douchenozzle n' stuff. Then, I found Floigan, and everything changed. Floigan made me realize how much of a retarded fag I had been. After undergoing floigalysis, I started changing myself for the better: I started regularly washing my bed linens, I got a Costco membership, I read Mein Kampf, I stopped shooting as much junk, and I even started working on the whole me being dead thing n' stuff. Look friend, the fact is... Floigan changed me, and Floigan can change you, too. Just stop like, being all hateful n' stuff. Open your heart and accept Floigan into your life. By the way, I'm Layne Floigley, and I'm dead.

Imo it's second best to Wii and superior to Wii in a lot of ways. Its strengths are
-some of the best tracks in the series DK Mountain, GC Bowser's castle, Wario stadium, Mario circuit, daisy cruiser, the list goes on.
-best battle mode and incredibly fun multiplayer. Especially if you link systems up.
great OST

Weaknesses are
- unfortunately due to the following games having retro tracks track selection feels small.
- controls take getting used to especially if you're fresh off new Mario Karts.
- some people just wanted a normal Mario Kart without the gimmick

For what it's worth I actually find 8 Deluxe a lot more frantic and chaotic than most of the old ones, there are items flying fucking everywhere and in my experience people end up all clumped together way more often than the old ones, where a few people would end up way ahead of the rest of the group.

Customizing stats never should have been added to the series though. Mario Kart just aint the place for that and everyone I know in real life dislikes bothering with it, they want to pick a character and a car and go.

This level is ass, especially the crushers, because their timing depends on when they appear on the screen rather than being pre-set, which lead to it being more difficult than it should depending on how the player approaches the area (this isn't the only trap in the game that is objectively badly designed) when there are several in a row.

You can jump on them though.

I played the demo at Walmart at the kiosk near the video games where you had to break your neck to look at the TV before the GameCube came out.

It can not be understated how fucking incredible looking and feeling this game was in 2001. I didn’t understand “bump mapping” or “60 fps” back then, but that’s immediately what I was impressed by. It looked just like the Special Edition CGI and was buttery smooth. It felt like “the future”.
This is the game that made me want a GameCube and it remained, in my opinion, the most technically impressive and fun game for its lifespan.
This game STILL looks amazing.

GameCube is an odd beast because I’d say a majority of its most technically impressive games came out closer to its launch than its end.

Finally, it’s there with one of the best Star Wars games ever made.

What happens when a magazine publisher and the geniuses at Bits Laboratory get together? One of the worst NES games, but we got the cleaned-up edition with bug fixes. The Famicom version is worse than that even. It's so fun being on a time limit to capture ghosts so when you run out of time you fail the mission and of course the pic related ending part which necessitates you climbing several flights of stairs by tapping A over and over and over (better get a turbo controller for this one).

If you do manage to beat the game and your head doesn't explode from hearing the Ghostbusters theme song looping over and over for an hour, your reward is staring at a black screen for two minutes as there's a bug that prevents the credits from being shown (fixed in the NES version). There's also a couple glitches in the buy equipment screen that were removed from the NES version, some of which can be used to your advantage. This is truly ultimate kusoge.

Can you spot the fake?

I bought 1 PS2 controller from DK Oldies (just to try the site out for myself). 2 PS2 controllers from gamestop's website. And 1 controller I bought around 12 years ago in store.

DK Oldies lived up to the reputation being a fake OEM controller and it was the most expensive. The 2 gamestop controllers were sticky/dirty (I don't know how long they were in storage) but honestly they are original, they work, and were just $15 a controller. Though I'm unsure if they just have a pile of real and knock off controllers and I just got lucky, gamestop's site never said original controllers and I wouldn't be surprised.

Anyway here is a thread for hardware/accessories you bought.

>Earthbound
I grew up playing smash 64 and then melee and I wanted to know who Ness was. Once I knew what emulaiton was EB was one of the first games I tried.

>Mother 3
I just think it's more fun than the other games. The story focus and linearity means it should be the least replayable, but it's the one I've played through the most by far.

>Ninten
I don't really know why, it's weird because EB0 isn't my favorite game in the series but he's the protag I like the most, probably my favorite character overall.

>Moonside
The whole place is just fucking cool. Mushroom Drugtrip Island from 3 is a close contender, Summers kinda did the same thing but the hallucinations didn't feel anywhere near as personal as the ones from the drugtrip from 3 did.

>Pollyanna, EB0 version
Song is just wonderful. Exploring the giant overworld is fucking great once you adapt to the frankly overwhelming freedom. That song just makes me happy. I associate it with specific gameplay memories more than I do with the other songs, maybe that's why I like it. I remember getting literally lost exploring the rivers north of podunk because I took the wrong northern path when I was trying to go back to Ninten's house, I made it all the way to the shore and the music swelled while my character looked out over the sea and I just imagined the scene...it was just kind of a magic moment. That song just fit with the opening of 0 really well, it feels so happy but also freeing and that just works with that whole area so perfectly.

You know, everything I just said about that song is probably why Ninten is my favorite character. I associate him with all of that.

Also, I'll never get used to calling it Earthbound Beginnings. I always call it Earthbound Zero without thinking.

I hope there's never a fourth game, it's a tidy little trilogy and it's complete. It's perfectly fine as is.

Haven’t played the third game but
>Earthbound 0
The ability to walk to pretty much every location without any interruptions really heightens the feeling of adventure, and there are very few things the game forces you to do other than collect the melodies unlike Earthbound. (Not separating the towns from the overworld like dragon quest really adds to this feeling, though Earthbound does that too). The combat is also a little more interesting in this game compared to Earthbound.
>Porky
I could list a lot of minor characters in both games that I like, but Porky is the perfect antagonist for a game that stars a preteen.
>Magicant
I remember being really surprised when I activated the cutscene that teleports you there for the first time. All of the inhabitants have memorable dialogue and the look of Magicant itself is really distinct from the mostly green and brown real world. It’s also one of the few places in the first game that isn’t accessible by foot. The Earthbound version is pretty cool too.
>Fourside
The song is so good that they reuse various parts of it in Earthbound’s other songs. This is also a contender for my favorite area because of how the game cleverly tricks you into thinking Fourside is much bigger than it really is through its layout and plot events. The horn instrument in the theme also adds to the big city atmosphere.

This reminds me I still need to do The Realm mega campaign for FRUA, I've had it bookmarked for so long that the website died.

You seriously underestimate 80’s nerds. They ended up making all your favorite 90’s and 2000’s RPGs.

First person to tell me what movie this is from without reverse image searching wins nothing.

Art direction and level design working cohesively to give the player a better sense of direction isn't something you see a lot unfortunately.

Doom's corridors are hand-drawn, Halo's are literally prefabs copy and pasted

Because as a kid you didn't care about autistic stuff like copied hallways, due to you not yet being a jaded adult that lives for finding things to complain about, and could actually enjoy your games.

Oh ok. To be fair I do also kinda prefer appimages. Especially on debian the dependencies can be a bitch. Did you do any troubleshooting?

The decomps help with romhacks, and most hackers are more interested in making stuff for original hardware. There's not as many PC-exclusive mods for SM64 or OoT.

If it could, we really need one for Saturn, the emulation is too demanding there.

I was replaying Zelda 2 and wanted to try to collect keys as much as I can in Second Quest. If you don't have any keys, you can bypass locked doors if you transform into a faerie. To get as much keys as possible, I have to get the Magic Key before collecting any keys. Then I revisited the palaces to collect keys and found there was a missing key in the first palace. It's the key in a room with a statue where you can get a red potion. If you take the potion then leave the screen, the key is lost when you return. I have wasted a few hours because of this glitch. I'm not the only one who suffer this.

Well I'm sorry to say that while I'm interested in the cause of this glitch, I just don't care enough to put in the effort.

This will just have to remain one of life's great mysteries.

I'm guessing:
>There is a progress flag for picking up the key
>The key does not spawn when the progress flag is set to "done"
>Picking up anything in the room sets the progress flag to "done"

Point 3 was likely an oversight.

Yeah, it's probably an oversight.

A normal person wouldn't leave the key.

I want to collect as many keys as possible. My magic meter was too low to cast Faerie to bypass the locked doors so I took that red potion and left the key.
