The small corpos would need Mint and Doki-like girls to attract Mint and Doki fans. Suffice to say they don't have 'em as they're both rare types who are actually deeply-into their things instead of the usual casual average tastes/skills small corpo girls are. There's a reason both of them became standouts in Niji while extremely average/mid girls there generally have stayed low or only declined over time.

A large portion of their audience came in with Luxiem’s rise and left with their downfall. The fans they had in the proto-NijiEN (pre-Luxiem) have been thinned out over time via erosion or simply left before things got worse, long ago.

Lazulydia (and Ethyria) was alright before Luxiem. The cultural shift in both the fanbase and the talents was just made it unattractive for me to continue watching. I still like the illuna girls, but that's because they barely participate in the mainline NijiEN culture.

Most viewers who get too parasocial end up sticking with a vtuber because of sunk cost fallacy. They've spent so long watching the same one that when the vtuber actually leaves or graduates, the viewer ends up actually quitting too. It's like finally being free of a drug.

The corpos and vtubers that looked at Gawr Gura and didn't immediately think of "Nah, I'd win" are the ones that are on the rise now.
Luxiem initially attracted large amount Chinese fans and then lost them, those hated the NijiEN girls' guts - except Enna who speaks Chinese - and were never going to watch your EN smol corpo girls.

The small corpo scene was growing quite a bit until all the yabs came out, Idol and Phase were and still are at the top, but there were still fairly successful corpos like VReverie and V&U (though V&U is still doing relatively okay). The majority of small corpos either died or yabbed so hard their reputation can’t be recovered, anyone burned by corpos is more likely to go to indies where they naturally don’t have to deal with black companies.
